Today's CDs (8/21/02)

Spoon - "Kill the Moonlight" (I should have listened to this before I bought it - as boring as Yancey said)
Interpol - "Turn on the Bright Lights" (thumbs up)
Neko Case - "Blacklisted" (big thumbs up)

Honestly, what happened to Spoon? I enjoyed both "Series of Sneaks" and "Girls Can Tell," but this new one is just as dull as can be.

I can't believe the reviews that the Spoon record is getting. I think just because they got dumped from Elektra after Series of Sneaks they get a lifetime critical pass, much like Wilco will from now on. It's a shame. Instead of getting blown by every writer, Britt needs to hear some real criticism to make him angry again. He's boring when he's satisfied.

A Certain Ratio -- Early
Gene Clark -- White Light
Solomon Burke -- Don't Give Up On Me
Karate -- Some Boots

It's great, isn't it?

Oh Byrds fans should seek out the Gene Clarke album. His second solo effort. It's not great, but it's certainly enjoyable. It just got reissued in the UK.

It really is. It's addictive actually. The Tom Waits song is just amazing, and the two Van Morrison songs are pretty great as well. The only disappointment is the one penned by Dylan...one of the weakest tracks of his I've ever heard, but Burke's voice almost makes up for it.
