Artists on the album include: Lucinda Williams, Blue Mountain, Gillian Welch, Whiskeytown, Golden Smog, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Freakwater, Meat Puppets, Gourds, BR5-49, Tangletown, Cheri Knight, Jayhawks, Kelly Willis, Steve Earle, Southern Culture on the Skids, Johnny Cash, Handsome Family, Vic Chesnutt, Honeydogs, Alejandro Escovedo, Marlee MacLeod, Lambchop, Gram Parsons.
I loooooove Kelly Willis.

Yeah, she's awesome. I'm gonna marry her someday...

BTW, have you ever seen "Bob Roberts"? Kelly Willis is "Miss Broken Dove" in the movie...

This guy is just loaded with talent.

I agree with you that he was, but Gold seems to be a turn away from his alt-country status. I don't like it nearly as much as I like Heartbreaker. It's my favorite Ryan Adams project since Faithless Street.

I think some of these might border on more of the Rockabilly side:

-- Mike Ness
-- The Rev. Horton Heat
-- Bad Livers
-- Hank Williams III
-- Supersuckers (they're more punk, though)
-- Dusty 45s

Freddy Jones Band has some great albums out. If you want to check them out, go with "Mile High Live", great live cd that gives a good overall impression of their work. I don't know if I consider them alt-country, but based on some of the other bands mentioned in this thread, I think they fit what we're talking about.
