I saw the new music video on MTVX, the video was hokey but the song was probably the most decent Rush song I ever heard. Geddy Lee's voice has toned down alot, thank god. I know I talked trash on Rush before but I like the new sound better than before. I consider it at least listenable.

Yeah.
Are you sure it wasn't some old video? You did say you haven't heard from them in some time.

I think it was an old music video. I think it was for "Driven." But anyways, I was checking to see what song it could have been and I noticed that CDNOW has a Chronicles (2001) disc import for $29.99 and I was wondering if that is the upcoming album. Just food for thought.

Woo Hoo!!! I've been waiting for new Rush and wondered for a while whether or not their would really ever be a new one(with Neil's personal tragedies and all).
Hope to keep my streak of (going back to Power Windows)consecutive Rush concert tours going strong!

Not to sound insensitive but with all the tragedy in Neil's life the next album could be a real deep one in terms of lyrics. I mean RUSH has always had great lyrics with very little "Pork"(meaningless words).

Legendary Trio Putting Final Touches On New Album, Slated For Spring Release
Rush has completed recording the tracks for their highly anticipated as-yet-untitled new album, which album is being produced by the band itself with engineer Paul Northfield (Marilyn Manson, Hole). The legendary power trio -- Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neal Peart -- recently wrapped up recording sessions in Toronto, and are now in the midst of mixing. The Canadian band's 17th studio recording, and their first all-new collection in over five years is currently slated for an early spring release through Atlantic/Anthem recording group.
Rush has been among the world's most popular rock bands for more than a quarter century. The trio's 22 albums have all been certified RIAA gold-or-better, with cumulative worldwide sales of over 35 million. Their most recent Atlantic/Anthem releases are 1996's gold-certified Test For Echo, followed by 1998's gold-certified multi-disc live set, Different Stages.

I am really pumped for this. I missed Rush when they toured in 97, they came to Merriweather and for some dumbass reason I didn't go.
Well my boss has seen Rush 5 or 6 times and he said if they tour again we are going.
Ok now a little off topic. Anyone else pick up the Chronicles DVD? The only videos on the disc that I have seen are Limelight and Subdivisions. Some of the others were ok...actually Mystic Rhythms was pretty damn good, but I had to force myself not to laugh during Time Stand Still...that was a silly video.

Albany--- opening date.
Philly -- Second row! in front of Ged.
Camden -- summer show (finally didn't have to wear a jacket)
I got Chronicles because it's Rush! Sigh... Rush was never known for their great videos. I like Mystic Rhythms also, it is probably Rush's best video.

Rush Putting Final Touches On Long-Awaited New Album
Jan 9, 2002, 11:00 am PT
While Rush fans endure the longest gap between new recordings in the band's 27-year history, word has come from its Toronto studio that work on album No. 17 is nearly complete.
In fact, the trio -- Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart -- has finished the recording phase with co-producer/engineer Paul Northfield (Hole, Marilyn Manson), and they are now mixing the results.
Atlantic/Anthem Records has announced a planned early spring release for the still-unnamed album, the first Rush studio effort since 1996's Test for Echo. (The band released the triple-live Different Stages in 1998.)
Rush is expected to follow the new album's release with its first concert dates since 1997.

Hmm, Rush on Toronto. Sounds good to me
I'll definitely be at the Pittsburgh show, or shows, hopefully. Last time they played Mellon Arena in November, and came back to the ampitheater the next June.
I could probably do Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, or Baltimore fairly easily too. Any excuse to go see Rush some more

Actually, Rush in Toronto really sucked. Most of the crowd sat down during the first song, and stayed that way for the entire 3 hours. One of our group actually got kicked in the back because we were standing. For the second night, we just said screw the seats and stood out in the grass.

Right on, it's good to hear that there's a date in the air now, even if it's not set in stone. With this and the new Dream Theater coming out, 2002 is gonna rock! Too bad there won't by anything else cool for awhile then afterwards...
I hope they come somewhere to the Pacific Northwest.

I suppose that we won't be seeing the highly anticipated "Different Stages" DVD anytime in the foreseeable future with the band working on new materal and subsequent touring. Oh well, at least my other dream concert DVD Roger Water's "In The Flesh" came out, so all in all, I still pretty happy.
I am awaiting receipt of many of the Rush "remasters" that I ordered from BMG. I'll be happy to start listening to more Rush for a while.

What I wish would happen: They either...
1) Make an album more like their earlier works, including a big sci-fi/fantasy epic like 2112, Hemispheres, Fountain of Lamneth, etch
or
2) They do an progressive instrumental album. (Think Yyz extended to 58 minutes or so).
I really didn't like T4E, and it just seems to me that now, since they know they aren't really a radio-friendly band (in this age of mtv, rap-rock, and n'sync) they are more free to experiment, and do whatever they want. The Rush audience is in place, and as one of the most progressive bands ever, it saddens me to see them release little boring (imho) 4 minute songs that lack the depth and complexity (both musically and lyrically) of their earlier works.
