Slipknot Sings 'Subliminal Verses'
Masked hard rock act Slipknot will on May 25 release its next album, "Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses)" via Roadrunner. An extensive online campaign is also in the works to spread the word. "People are either going to love this or hate it," Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor told Billboard.com last month. "We've never been a middle of the road band, and we're either going down in history or going down in flames with this."
Among the 13 Rick Rubin-produced tracks expected to make the cut include first single "Duality," "Pulse of the Maggots," "Vermillion," "Circle" and "The Blister Exists." A B-side from the recording sessions, "Don't Get Close," plus some instrumental pieces, will appear in the Activision video game "MTX: Mototrax." A video for "Duality" will be shot later this month in Slipknot's Des Moines, Iowa, hometown by Tony Petrossian and Mark Klasfeld.
The group has created a comprehensive, nine-prong promotion on its official Web site that will begin with the March 30 release of an MP3 download for "Pulse of the Maggots." In the weeks that follow, Slipknot will offer further audio streams, launch its first official message board and make "Duality" available for sale via Apple's iTunes Music Store.
Access to these special features will become progressively more difficult leading up to May 25, when an MP3 of a non-album track will launch but only be accessible by fans who have purchased the physical CD. A special enhanced edition of "Subliminal Verses" will allow fans to enter contests, participate in nine online chats with band members and view behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions.
The final segment, which launches July 28, will be a Slipknot mixing board loaded with nine different loops of music. "No user will ever have the same experience twice, and no two users will ever have the same experience, period," the band insists.
There's been conjecture that "Subliminal Verses" might be the band's last, which Taylor doesn't dismiss. "It still may be the last album, but we're not thinking about that anymore," he says. "We're thinking about going out on the road, playing for a bunch of our friends and getting the album out. Then we'll take a break, go do our respective stuff and get together and see if we're still into it."
As previously reported, Slipknot will headline the Jagermeister Music Tour, kicking off March 30 in Orlando, Fla., and anchor the second stage of Ozzfest, which begins July 12 in Hartford, Conn.

Interesting. They always have pretty creepy looking photos. I'm not a huge fan, but own the cds and I'm sure I'll get this one. They are a good band to listen to when you are really pissed off hehe. That's about the only time I can listen to them though.
