Robert Duvall Dead at 95
Not unexpected but sad nonetheless. There are too many great roles to mention them all.
He was a true Hollywood legend. https://pagesix.com/2026/02/16/enter...or-dies-at-95/ |
Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
My personal favorite actor of all time. He was amazing in Tender Mercies.

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
He and Gene Hackman should have died at the same time like Jefferson and Adams

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
So only Pacino and Talia Shire are left from the main cast members of The Godfather
I looked at his IMDB and it looks like the most recent movie I saw with Duvall was Widows from 2018. I did catch the 50th anniversary re-release of The Godfather when it came back to theaters in 2022. |

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
Legend gets used a little too loosely at times, but this man absolutely left a legacy behind to be very proud of. Legend. Talk about an everyman utility player.... Rest in Peace

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
RIP
A crime he was not on Godfather 3. The Judge with Robert Duvall was maybe his last big role and he played a old guy with health problems back in 2014 and look differently at that movie now. The cops in Falling Down and Colors two of his more underrated roles. A Night in Old Mexico though not well known was one of the last movies I saw him in, |
Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
It's my fault.
Came across him in a movie (Widows) and wondered how late in his 90s he was and when his last role was. Saw he was 95 and thought to myself "He'll be gone within a year". Hmmm... I wonder how old Trump is... let me take a look. |
Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
Obviously his movies, but the other first thing I think of when Duvall's name comes up is the couple times he called into the Howard Stern show (apparently he was a fan), and forceful his conversation personality was to the point of almost being exhausting.

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
62-year career. A lot of TV eps. in the early years: The Untouchables, Naked City, Outer Limits, Route 66, The Twilight Zone, etc.
Early movies I saw him in: THE CHASE, THE DETECTIVE, TRUE GRIT, M*A*S*H, THE GODFATHER, JOE KIDD, BADGE 373, THE OUTFIT, GODFATHER II, etc. I think TRUE GRIT was the first one where I recognized Duvall and knew who he was. He plays Ned Pepper and has the standoff/ride-off with John Wayne ("Fill your hand, you son of a bitch!"). And then the next year as Frank Burns in M*A*S*H. Then of course THE GODFATHER and finally a starring role in the gritty police thriller, BADGE 373. Pretty amazing lineup. |
Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
People will talk about the big roles he played, and those were great. Tom Hagen and Colonel Kilgore are personal favorites. But I also want to point out some of the smaller roles that he played in three of my all time favorite movies. Namely To Kill a Mockingbird, Bullitt and the Conversation. Small roles that didn't need someone of his caliber, but it was always a pleasure to see him and he was instantly recognizable.

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
RIP Robert Duvall. He seemed like a genuinely good man. I just watched the Godfather trilogy a few weeks back. But I always enjoyed him no matter what role he played.

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
Sad news, but... 95 years is a hell of a run. Well done him. A total legend. :rip:

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
I just realized that all the major male cast members from The Natural (1984) have now passed away.
Robert Duvall Robert Redford Darren McGavin Wilford Brimley Richard Farnsworth Robert Prosky Joe Don Baker Michael Madsen . |
Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
My favorite role of his was the priest on the swing in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. He's only on-screen for about one second in the background, and you saw him and thought That looks like Robert Duvall! And then you sort expect him to show up later in the movie and he didn't, so you thought it just someone who sort of looked like him. Then, years later, you learn that, yes, that was Robert Duvall.
It's just a wonderful bit of... strangeness. |
Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
He sure had a good run. A fascinating actor in how unexpected his trajectory was from his early years to the success he achieved. When you see his early work in TV like Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, The Fugitive or Time Tunnel he's awkward looking, balding, without all the gravitas that would come to define his later work. He managed to escape getting typecast after playing Boo Radley. He was an actor who grew into his face and mastered a career with longevity and fame far beyond your average "that guy" character actor who often fade into smaller parts with age.

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
the best actors are the ones that give effortless performances... it just never felt like he was acting... RIP.

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
He was among the best. I may do a marathon of his movies tonight. |
Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
When I was about 8 or 9 years old, I saw THE GREAT SANTINI and that performance stayed with me my entire adult life. Truly one of the greatest actors of all time.

Re: Robert Duvall Dead at 95
In my mind, I always put Hackman and Duvall together. The character actor leading man who also come in and do a supporting role and make your movie better. It feels silly to mention them, but Duvall did a lot of money jobs in the 90s so he could help fund his more passion projects. But as dumb as things like Days of Thunder or Deep Impact were, Duvall was always great in them. He was legitimizing the movies.
