He had so many great roles, but I always think of him as Gus McCrae in Lonesome Dove first.

He was great in Lonesome Dove. He’s also wonderful in Open Range, one of my favorite Westerns.

Agreed.

So many great roles. Tom Hagen would be at the top of my list. GF and GF II would not be the same without him.

Just to throw another role out there, although it was small...

Also as the Commander in The Handmaid's Tale film.

No one talks about this movie anymore, but Duvall was cool as Captain Sturgeon Tanner in Deep Impact.

Lost some big name 70s acting legends in the last year - Duvall, Redford, Keaton and Hackman. 3 of which have passed in the last 6 months.

Nicholson and Hoffman won't be far behind as they're both 88. And Pacino and Deniro are getting up there as well.

He looks very easy going but once he sounds off, you totally listened.

Don't put the jinx but Pacino and De Niro seem like they are in good shape especially De Niro since he is always doing movies and TV projects.

Nicholson is the one to worry about since he has been out of the spotlight for a couple of years and not a frequent presence at Laker games anymore.

He was in one of the more underrated Twilight Zone episodes "Miniature" worth a watch.

Guess I’ll be the first to bring up Network. A film where all time great performances were the standard, I personally believe Duvall’s was the best.

The Apostle is another under appreciated film and performance of his.

When talking about people getting up there in age. I think my heart will probably implode when Scorsese and Coppola pass.

I usually watch it once a year. I've had the blu-ray forever and I've had it on UHD on Fandango At Home for a while. I should just buy the 4K disc already.

Pacino and Talia Shire are the only two from the main cast of actors that are still alive from the Godfather since Keaton and now Duvall have passed away recently.

Jane Fonda is 88, Faye Dunaway is 85, Warren Beatty is 88, Woody Allen is 90. Pacino is 85. DeNiro is still a kid at 82.

Thinking I should invest in some funeral homes and cemeteries in the Hollywood area.

I remember when movie stars used to die young: Tyrone Power (44), Errol Flynn (50), Gary Cooper (60) and Clark Gable (59) all died in a 4-year period (1958-61).

I have the Paper on Blu-ray and must watch it now since Duvall was in it and I bought a Family Thing with late James Earl Jones RIP.

Maybe it is kind of Hallmarky but they don't make a lot of movies like that anymore.

My wife used to live in one of the houses used in the film. Her family has some autographed memorabilia from Duvall and others stored away somewhere.

RIP, always enjoyed his performances.

Eastwood too. He might be the oldest.

The movie he directed, The Apostle, is amazing. Probably the first movie I think of when I think about him.

Bonus young Walton Goggins too.

You guys should watch it if you haven't.

Love Nicholson as an actor, but man, he’s a huge piece of shit.
