Thunderbolts* -- (2025, D: Schreier) -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread

I keep thinking about how this worked for me so much in how REAL it was. Like real locations and actual well done sets. I knew this was going to be the most grounded movie coming from marvel so I'm just hoping that what's to come next has to knock it out with the acting and script. FF, Spider man, and Doomsday; those are just gonna be green/blue screen bonanzas.

Interesting, has a major studio film's promotional material ever had a title change after the film was released? (so not counting stuff like Revenge of the Jedi advance posters, or old exploitation films having title changes for various territories, rereleases, etc.).

Edge of Tomorrow became Live, Die, Repeat. And that wasn't really 'official'. That's the only one that jumps to mind.

It's a bizarre marketing choice by Marvel. It's borderline spoiler since it's not officially revealed until the end of the movie.

Then I went to the theater to go see it, the title had changed into Bound By Honor.
And then when the movie came out on video, All the titles had been stacked together: Blood in, Blood Out: Bound By Honor.

I was close with Dark Avengers but New Avengers works just as well. Or is it Avengerz?

I'm wondering if Sam's team would be called "Mighty Avengers". Kinda sucks we won't see his initiative whatsoever until Doomsday. I'd even be down for a "Sam's Avengers recover a warhead and then he calls Bucky about the naming rights" short/special.

I remember Dark Phoenix became X-Men Dark Phoenix after it bombed out its first week. Leaving X-Men off the titles was a head scratcher

The hater channels are already trying to bury the movie and downplay its success.

I don't know what city is this, but isn't this a little premature to reveal this on a billboard? Like a spoiler? You just can't assume everyone sees big movies week 1.

Edit: Apparently it's a billboard in Los Angeles.

This is only going to be interesting if there is some sort of back and forth between this crew and Sam’s crew. With some sort of interstitial back and forth material to keep us “in world”, this could be amazing. If it is just a one-off stunt that might pay off in a few years, it is dumb.

Analysts are already downplaying this movie's opening weekend numbers. It will undoubtedly have legs, and I see it becoming a decent sized hit. It's not doing the numbers of the big name MCU properties, but that's because this doesn't have any big MCU names in it, which is precisely the point of the movie. I guess it's just now hip to bash all Disney releases , even the ones critics and audiences enjoy.

Good question.
Sooo, which title will be on the Blu-ray/4K release? Hmmmm.

I mean, there's a production company that exists by making knock-offs of popular movies because people go walking into video stores looking for films that are still in their theatrical run, or before they've even opened.
How many people are going to think that New Avengers is a different movie?

Funny enough, Live Die Repeat was the title Liman wanted, when it was decided not to call the movie All You Need Is Kill (the title of the light novel). Some exec came up with Edge Of Tomorrow and used Liman's title as a tagline.
