Time Cut (2024, D: Macpherson) S: Bailey, Gentry

To stop this killer, they’ll need to rewrite history.

A teenage girl travels back to the early 2000s to stop a vicious killer from murdering her sister. Starring Madison Bailey, Antonia Gentry, Michael Shanks, and Griffin Gluck.

Directed by Hannah Macpherson (T@gged) and written by Macpherson and Michael Kennedy (Freaky).

Watch Time Cut, only on Netflix October 30.
From the writer of Freaky. Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is a producer on this too.

I guess the ‘20 years retro’ genre has now passed the turn of the century. That looks intriguing, but I’m assuming if it really was it might’ve sold to a studio and gotten a theatrical release like the DEATH DAY movies?

At TIFF Midnight Madness in September I saw a horror-comedy premiere called ICK which likewise ‘revisits’ 2003 (or thereabouts), albeit in a non time-travel way. More on that in another thread . . . eventually.

Going all the way back to when….things were pretty much the same as they are today.

Good point. I suspect maybe younger millennials and gen-Z-ers will sense the time and place that the production designers recreate in these films, compared to us grown-ups. It does feel like a lot of things have aged/evolved more slowly since the early 00’s, but I do wonder if it’s happening at the usual pace but it’s just less apparent as we age.

Wasn't this exact same plot used last year in that Kiernan Shipka movie? It was to save her mom, but still, same thing isn't it?

Yeah, that's immediately what I thought. VERY similar premise.... just replacing mom with sister and 1987 with 2003.

Totally Killer was a fun comedy. This leans more into the teen angst YA drama genre. I loved Totally Killer. This was kinda dull and forgettable.

I watched about a third of it. Will finish this evening (was just tired after a day of Halloween festivities). I like it so far.

It's more about how someone copes with death, rather than time travel (still involves time travel).

I think the movie is 1/2 entertaining and fell completely flat in the 2nd half. The time travel elements didn't work in my opinion and the payoffs for some of the stories was unsatisfying. I also thought the horror elements fell kind of flat. The killer reveal was dumb.

But, Bailey and Gentry were both good as the sisters from 2 different generations. This wasn't a big time commitments under 90 minutes with no credits. Don't expect the next Scream. This was a pretty PG-13 equivalent movie.

I watched this cuz I just watched Totally Killer and was curious to compare. Like Dave said this was more of a teen drama than horror. Boring, but I am not the target audience. Totally Killer
