Looks like an old drive-in movie or VHS rental.

I get a Friday the 13th / Town that Dreaded Sundown feel from this.
I'll watch it for sure. They had me at gore. Some are calling it an F13 ripoff but just because dude has sack-head doesn't mean shit.

It's not really getting rave reviews, but I'll probably check it out regardless.

The film is told almost entirely from the perspective of the killer.

That also intrigues me.

Re: In a Violent Nature (2024, D: Nash)

I almost fell asleep during several instances of this movie.

There's one really cool gore scene and a few average ones that total about 8 minutes.

Then there's about 60 minutes of footage of a guy walking slowly through a forest with his back to the camera.

Then there's about 20 minutes of bad dialogue from 30-year-old college students including a silly backstory for the killer.

I have no idea what the filmmakers intended here other than to bore people to death

I can now understand why less people want to go to the theatres to see movies these days. This was a huge waste of time.

Of course, the artsy fartsy critics will eat it all up and laud its brilliant subversion of the genre.

Saw this yesterday evening.

As Perkinsun Dzees mentioned, outside of the one gonzo gore scene, it's difficult to pinpoint what Director/Writer Chris Nash was aiming for here, especially in the final 15-minutes.

Even at a fairly lean 94-minutes, the film has excruciating slow pacing for no other reason than to triple-down on its gimmick.

In my opinion, Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) handled the subversion of the genre much better.

I wish we had gotten the sequel to Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Just saw this and thought it pretty much sucked. I feel like I'm missing something from the last 10-15 minutes and the story that was told during that time.

I thought the ending purely existed in that way for Director/Writer Chris Nash
Spoiler:
to subvert more expectations within the genre. Looking at films such as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) & Friday The 13th (1980) for reference, the audience might be expecting Johnny to be in the back of the pick-up truck or for the Woman (Lauren-Marie Taylor of Friday The 13th Part 2) to have some connection to Johnny. None of that ever comes.

Thought this was overrated. Felt like a student film, what with half the run time is spent watching Johnny walk silently. There were some pretty gnarly kills though.

Agreed that the ending sucked too

Unfortunate to hear. This had some good hype around it.

I actually thought this was pretty damn inventive, and wonderfully gonzo in parts. To cast a whole slasher movie from the single-minded killer's perspective is fascinating, and it worked for me--for the most part. There's a brutal inevitability to his movements. The ending isn't satisfying at all, and that's very frustrating, considering what comes before it.. But the gore is spectacular.

A bit frustrating because there was huge potential to put a different spin on the genre. Some terrific messy kills. Perfect location. The killer looks great.

I think its hampered by a poorly conceived story and execution. Wish they'd stuck with the killer perspective the entire way. Beginning felt rushed and the end too drawn out. A lot of unconvincing acting didn't help.

Re: In a Violent Nature (2024, D: Nash)

I loved it, absolutely loved it - I think a lot of it has to do with it's "legend of the forest" vibe (don't steal the gold necklace). I thought it would be devoid of tension and creepiness due to us following the killer around the entire time, but no way, it was a weird experience and I dug it.

I'm not trying to challenge those that hated it, but I really do feel that most that did not like this film were expecting the typical horror movie format - you're not getting that here at all.

Yes, even with its low budget (but damn it looked amazing in some of the forest stalking scenes), I still loved it. The kills are overly gory but they stay just shy of the terrifier nonsense.

Also, I'm well aware of how goofy it was for them to try and get Johnny to his grave again, but for some reason, I can forgive it.

I don't like how close they made it to Jason Voorhees, but hey, a lot of filmmakers do love letter movies.

About the end and the pic VHS? posted - here it is explained and why it was as long as it was (major spoilers if you want to figure it out for yourself):

Spoiler:
First, the women who rescued Kris on the road needed a little build up, so that took up some time. The purpose of her story was to flesh out the "henhouse syndrome" connection to Johnny where the bear in her story was killing for satisfaction for a while after killing plenty enough for eating. The comparison was that Jonny wasn't a man, he was a beast and that he didn't return to his grave after getting back his necklace because Kris got away and he needs that "one last kill" before going away like the bear in the truck driver's story. All of this is further proved by what the ranger said when he met up with campers, the ranger was able to get Johnny back to his final resting place so Johnny would have probably awoken again whether his necklace was stolen or not - he kills the ranger and gets his necklace back, but he won't go back to his resting place because Kris got away.

I thought that whole scenario was well thought out even though it came across a bit cheesy in execution (mainly at how rushed the ranger's explanation was - if they slowed it down, it would have played much better). Either way, it shows how the director wanted to give his slasher movie more depth.

Even with Rival's explanation, my feeling is that the ending still doesn't work at all. Kudos, I guess, for going for it, but the experience of watching it is quite deflating. IMO. EVEN SO, it's one of the best horror films of the year.

I also feel like, in regard to the ending:
Spoiler:
that it was trying to throw the viewer off in thinking that maybe the lady will give her up or something or that he is going to pop out again at some point, but it doesn't do that, and I loved it for that.

. Even with the ending, I too, also really liked this one. I thought the setting was beautiful and I loved that they used a steadicam and not handheld. That one shot of the camera looking down and floating across the kill scene was great.
