Well a lot of movies from the late 80s and early 90s had ridiculous premises and they turned out to be some of the most rewatchable movies ever.

Yep. They weren't necessarily good, but they were enjoyable and memorable.

Is that where that saying actually came from? Because I use that regularly to this day.

And saying, "The dishes are done, man," has been a mainstay as well.

It’s the rosetta stone of modern culture.

This thread is very educational. A movie that at my age was a completely inconsequential teen comedy that wasn't a blip on my cultural radar is this enormous touchstone for people born a decade later.

I was in grade school, but already a movie dork. Here is how I remember it... It was very hyped, similar to Encino Man. It had a great hook, premise, and trailer. Applegate was loved as Kelly Bundy. Then it came out and most people were very disappointed. But that hook kept people talking about it, even though nobody really loved it.

Teen movies have a very special place in my heart and I'll always love them. I was about 10 when Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead was released. I think I rented it from the video store first and then my Grandparents taped it off of HBO for me. Its just a favorite from that era and one of those perfect movies you can watch on a lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon. As far as this remake goes Im curious and might see it but I hope we get another trailer before the April release date,

I might be over inflating things a bit. You see, it was the movie I had my first date to.

Perfect example of the mystery of how movies get made. There is no rhyme or reason to stuff that somehow makes it to filming while other ideas just languish in non-production purgatory.

Now imagine a remake with today’s technology!

Hard pass.

Nah the T Rex was just riding on movies like Encino Man. There was a whole five years of movies like that. Lots of duds. Whoopie Goldberg had that dinosaur cop movie too. Someone should make a thread. Lots of nostalgia.

^ I assumed they were running off the popularity of Jurassic Park but yeah, the 90s had a weird streak of low budget “dinosaurs in modern times” movies.

I knew a guy who worked around those movies. Mostly the DTV ones that I’m sure haven’t survived. Some of those low budget direct to video projects started with just access to repurpose props from other movies. They would make a story around it and the budget was so low that a few rental store VHS orders would cover it.

That's the part that raised my eyebrows, but I assumed your daughter was a little older than 9. I'd feel really uncomfortable taking my 14 year old daughter to a movie that was rated R in large part due to sexuality themes. That's a big "nope" for me!

Ah. I mean I guess it’s possible I’d let her watch this if it’s just language but it’d be the exception to the rule if I did and this thing would have to thread an amazing needle for it to be the exception AND good enough I want to watch it a second time with her.

Was happy to see Jermaine Fowler is in it. One of my favorite parts of Sorry to Bother You. Step in the right direction.

Well, you'll have to take her to see it if she watches that trailer online, because she will demand to know how Nicole Richie finishes that sentence!!

Actually looks a bit funnier than I would have expected. It'll probably work well for kids that have never seen the original.

Here's an early review that basically says there's no reason for it to exist. It suggests the original movie's fans are probably too mature now to enjoy such a movie. Not me.😜

If the reviewer believes that this remake was made to appeal to fans of the original, he or she is a fucking idiot.

Depending on how long it's in theaters, I might check this out.

Regal Unlimited Plus Pass makes these decisions for me
