Sinners is going to get an IMAX re-release on Halloween week.
I know it is on HBO Max, digital and disc and probably most of you aren’t really that interested, but throwing it out there if you want to see this theatrically and missed it.

Ooh! I did pick this up on 4K in September in anticipation of watching it as a family in October for the countdown. It's one of the only times I can recall buying a 4K essentially in the first few months of it coming out without caring about the price because I wanted it. Still, we haven't watched it, and I wonder if it would be really impactful on the big screen. I'll have to walk at least our youngest out during the sex scene, but this could be a good family movie outing.

I caught it on IMAX during the original run (second viewing... first was Dolby). If my IMAX wasn't still closed for renovations I might have gone again.

That is the strange thing about the sex scenes . . . they don't show anything, yet they are intensely emotionally graphic.Originally Posted by story

I think I said it before, but it would be nice to have a "school appropriate" version because Coogler does such an amazing job of capturing and recreating history.

10 cities certainly qualifies for "select" status. Two hours away is the closest for me, so that's a no-go.

Keep in mind, this is just the IMAX 70MM format. You may have regular IMAX shows available. 70MM has always been limited.

Check your listings? I'm sure anyone here can look at that list of 10 theaters and know immediately whether they're even within 100 miles of one. Unfortunately it looks like those of us in small towns like Chicago or Boston or Philadelphia (to name a few) are out of luck.Originally Posted by DJariya

But hey I’ve heard of people who have driven 3 to 4 hours cross states to see limited screenings. I’m sure most here would never do that, so whatever

I’ve seen the movie 3 times already. Once in regular IMAX and two times at home.
I live near the Irvine Regal. I was going to see it in IMAX 70MM back when it was still playing months ago and had to cancel. I’d love to catch it in 70MM, but I’m going to have to think about it. $28 is a lot.

Don't mind me. I just get a little salty anytime these specialty screenings are announced because 99.9999999% of the country don't have reasonable access to them. It has nothing to do with "small towns". I would gather that most of us here who live in small towns, still live in reasonable vicinity to a moderately sized (or bigger) city. It's not like we're all living in cabins out in the woods. We just don't live in LA or NYC.Originally Posted by DJariya

And, to be clear, this is entirely DJariya's fault. Originally Posted by rocket1312

Interesting fact: the movie’s title was inspired by DJariya. Originally Posted by story

I definitely need to see this again soon. It was just that good. Coogler and Jordan are just gold when working together. They are a dynamic duo, and this film is certainly no exception. They just do good works.

Anybody who cares already knows if they are in the 10 markets that have 70mm. Why keep playing this like it will be 10 different markets this time around?Originally Posted by rocket1312

Nope, reinforcing your point.
It makes no sense at all to “mass market” ads for these showings.

We watched this on 4K as a family finally after we all got back from Halloween trick-or-treating. That let me skip the sex scenes and sexual prowess lesson dialogue easily. I'd caught the very last show in town in the middle of the summer. The family had never seen it. They all loved it.Originally Posted by story

Unfortunately I didn't have time to venture out to see this in IMAX 70MM this weekend. Oh well, I've already seen it a few times already.

Then you're watching a movie with your teenage and tween daughters and a big sex scene is coming up and you have a choice to make.
While the older one has seen some, the younger hasn't and it isn't appropriate yet. And really, both have said they don't want to watch those scenes, especially with us, and I'm fine with it.
We pick and choose, which is what we do with all movies, shows, music, plays, novels, etc. We find we are far more permissive than most parents. Our kids forget that sometimes until they hear all of the movies their friends aren't allowed to watch. Ultimately, if they want to watch and we are ready to process, we will likely watch and if they self-select out, we don't push them.
All of that said, they were rolling on the ground barely breathing from their laughter over the locker room scene in BASEketball last year!
Two days later, everyone in the family is still talking about this movie. That says a lot to me.

Plus, the violence is only against vampires and Klan members, right? No real peopleOriginally Posted by story

I remember watching A History of Violence with my parents in the theater and that is hands down my most awkward experience

When I was a kid, my mother would take me to any R-rated movie I wanted to see. I also watched anything I wanted to on HBO or cable. I think my first R-rated movie in a theater was either National Lampoon's Vacation or John Carpenter's Christine when I was seven or eight. And I think the first R-rated movie I ever saw Piranha on HBO when I was five or six.
So watching coarse stuff with my family isn't any big deal.
Though it kind of awkward when my mother is watching something like American Horror Story at my house, hears a word she doesn't understand, then turns and asks me what a rimjob is.
And then I have to explain it to her.
The worst part is that I'd think she'd remember what it was after the first three previous times I had to explain it to her...
