This new business strategy of A24 acquiring older films is very interesting...

I had a very fun experience with this about 15 years ago. The wife and I were attending the Toronto Film Festival. Between screenings one day, we were walking down the street and saw a group of people gathered around a big outdoor projection screen. It started playing Stop Making Sense. We decided to stop and listen to the first song, but the crowd was really into it and we had so much fun we wound up staying for the whole thing. It almost felt like attending an impromptu concert.

D'oh! I just posted something and then scrolled up to find that I'd already told the same story earlier in the thread.

Just got into the Talking Heads in the last year. Have only seen one or two of the songs from this on youtube. Looking forward to getting to see the whole thing for the first time on the big screen.

Here's what convinced me to go see the movie in a theater in 1985.

I remember seeing this first run at an arthouse theater and people were dancing in the aisles.
I later rented a VHS and presented it in the auditorium of my high school for fine arts week. It was very well received.

Anyone that likes Stop Making Sense needs to check out David Byrne live on Sessions at West 54th. I wish they would release this, in some format.
I actually prefer the version of Making Flippy Floppy in this show to the one on Stop Making Sense.

Click the link. The video will play on You tube but can’t be embedded on another site for some reason.
I still remember watching this S&E and although I knew very little Talking Heads music, I was sold because they talked about how great the show was and how dynamic David Byrne was. They were right!

My best friend from high school and I have very similar taste in music. We ended up sending this to each other basically at the same time. I sent it and a little later he writes, I was just sending this to you!
It's always nice to have a good dinner-and-a-movie date all setup for you and a good friend in your future.

Re: Stop Making Sense: 10/13/09
Talking Heads, one of the greatest rock bands in history, broke up in 1991. The band was barely active when leader David Byrne finally announced that it was ending; drummer Chris Frantz learned the news by reading a newspaper article. Since their breakup, David Byrne and his former Talking Heads bandmates have said angry things about one another, something that was still happening as recently as this year. Byrne took legal action to prevent his former bandmates from performing as the Heads. (That was their name. The Heads. They released a 1996 album under the title No Talking, Just Head.) Even with that bad blood, the band reunited when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2002. Next month, they will reunite again.
Talking Heads are not reuniting to perform. Instead, all four classic-era members — David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth, and Jerry Harrison — will get back together at the Toronto International Film Festival for a Q&A about Stop Making Sense, their utterly amazing 1984 concert film. A24 recently acquired the rights to Stop Making Sense, which was directed by the late Jonathan Demme, and it’s put together a 4K restoration of the film. That restoration will debut at TIFF, and it’ll be livestreamed into different IMAX theaters around the world. After the movie, as part of the livestream, Spike Lee will host a Q&A with the band.
Talking Heads previously reunited in 1999 to promote the 15th-anniversary reissue of Stop Making Sense. They also played four songs at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony in 2002; it was their only live performance since 1984.
Spike Lee directed David Byrne in the great 2020 concert film David Byrne’s American Utopia, which was clearly influenced by Stop Making Sense. It’s cool that all four Talking Heads, however they may feel about one another, recognize that they accomplished something truly amazing with Stop Making Sense, and it’ll be fascinating to see them share a stage once more.

Re: Stop Making Sense (D: Demme) - 4K restoration coming to theaters
Tickets for this at my local AMC IMAX are $35.00 each, and the theater is already 75% sold out. I realize this is a special event, but that's outrageous. The most I've paid to see a movie in this IMAX auditorium was $22.00.

Is this for the screening on the 11th? I wonder if its more because it is in conjunction with TIFF. It doesn't even seem to be A-List eligible either. The screenings later in September for the official release will likely be cheaper.

strangely I have the CD and cassette for this but never actually saw the movie. I love the Cassette but the CD is a different mix and soundtrack which I always found a bitt odd Is this one night only in theaters or will it be out for a few nights?

I would love to see the live telecast event on 9/11, it's almost sold out of decent seats, but it starts at 6 on a Monday and that's hard for me to make after work and across town. It's $28 for.me.

I want to see this, but the seats at the IMAX screenings in my area are terribly uncomfortable. At least this isn't a long movie like Dune or Oppenheimer.
Will both the live event on September 11 and the screening later in the month have the same content?

I think only the TIFF simulcast will have the Q&A. Not sure if it will make it to the UHD, but I hope so.

The IMAX 11th showing is $28 and filling up. I'm not even sure if I have that day off yet. I've had the DVD forever but would get an upgraded version. It's a great movie.

Re: Stop Making Sense (D: Demme) - 4K restoration coming to theaters
Just got back. That was epic. My IMAX theater was 95% sold out. Only a few seats left in the front row. The crowd was extremely pumped. People were up on their feet dancing. There was clapping after each song and after Bryne introduced the band in the film. I just sat there smiling hard the whole time, legs moving. It was so great seeing this in a theater again. Especially on an IMAX screen. I saw in back in the day 5 times when opened in D.C. It played for over a year. For the first few months, several times a day. Then just weekends including midnight show. It was a small auditorium, but terrific sound. The live interview afterwards didn't start for over 30 minutes after the film ended. That was really irritating. It was a bit anticlimactic and awkward. It felt like there was still a lot of tension with everyone. Chris Frantz was the most excited to be there and told some great stories. Harrison looked happy to participate but came across nervous. Tina is painfully shy and barely spoke. Bryne was his normal self and let the others take the floor first. I think he's making an effort to make amends with everyone but I doubt we'll ever see them together again.

Yeah, my daughter just saw it in NYC and said pretty much the same thing. Said it looks amazing in IMAX and sounds great.

From my audience. More started dancing later. Forgot to mention, A LOT of singing too.
