It's good that people are having fun, but I'd be annoyed if I was sitting behind them. I guess they could have dancing and non-dancing sections...

Yeah, its cool if everyone's standing up & dancing in the same area.

At one of the Tragically Hip shows I went to, two 20-somethings right in front of us decided they were going to stand up rather than sit. Not just at the beginning when the band takes the stage, or when cheering at the end of a song, or during the encore, etc., but throughout. They weren't dancing, just standing. For no reason at all. They were the only ones in the arena who were doing that and, naturally, had to be right in front of us. I finally had enough and told them, as politely as I could, to sit the f*ck down or I'll make them sit down. They seemed completely oblivious to the fact that no one sitting behind them could see anything at all. Just totally clueless. But I digress ...

Nice to see people in the audience enjoying the concert movie like that. It had to be a pretty cool vibe ...

I can only imagine how the Swift screenings will be.

That's literally how my friend responded when I texted him that clip of the people dancing and singing. Honestly, no one was upset with anyone dancing in front of them. There was such a positive energy in the theater. Everyone cheered during the title credits and when David Byrne walked onto the stage. Such a special night. I'm so glad I was there.

I'm going to see it in IMAX on Friday.
I think it's just IMAX this weekend, regular screens next week.

Went this afternoon (A-list eligible), and it sounded great. Unfortunately there were only about three or four other people in my IMAX theater.

Had a decent turn out for my 7:30 IMAX showing. Sounded unbelievable and looked pretty great. Man what a wonderful film. Really holds up. Took my associate who knew almost nothing about or by the Talking Heads except Burning Down the House, and she really enjoyed it as well. So glad I went.

The quartet have done public events in NY ans LA this week promoting the film and look less uncomfortable than they did in Toronto.

Jeeezus, this was fantastic. Highly recommend catching the IMAX presentation while you still can. "Once in a Lifetime" is almost transcendent. Feels like you're in friggin' church.

Trying to decide if I should bother going to see this on a regular screen. I don’t have an IMAX up here close by.
As much as I’m glad people are having fun with the viewing of this, since I’m a stick in the mud it would drive me insane if a bunch of people started dancing and singing along.

The main auditorium at my local theater doubles as a performance space and has a balcony, so that venue is more appropriate than IMAX for this one. I may catch this a couple times.

Re: Stop Making Sense (D: Demme) - 4K restoration coming to theaters

I've have this concert movie on blu-ray for many years but it was great to finally see it on the big screen. I was surprised the 3 cut songs weren't restored to the movie, but I guess that was just done to the soundtrack album, not the movie itself (at least the 2 deleted scenes with the cut songs are easy to view outside the movie). It's been a while since I sat down and watched the whole movie so seeing it again and I was amazed all over again at just how great a concert movie it is. The high-quality filming, the great performance, the high sound quality, and the lack of filler (like most concert movies have) - I wish more concert movies were this well made.

Re: Stop Making Sense (D: Demme) - 4K restoration coming to theaters

Saw this last week (second time, first time was a midnight showing in Harvard Square in 1985) and liked it again. For some reason though, I was feeling super sleepy and while I stayed awake, fighting off sleep while watching a movie takes away from the enjoyment. So I might go for another viewing this week.

ETA: But I'm sorry, the best concert film of all time is still Urgh! A Music War. For one thing, it encompasses many different music styles in many different venues. From large arenas to tiny clubs like CBGB. And Stop Making Sense was actually three concerts edited together (rather seamlessly, I might add) but that means the Heads had to pretty much replicate the performances of all three shows taking away a little sponteneity. Urgh was a one-shot-deal, you got it on camera that night or you didn't get it, and there are so many instances of the live performance being so unique and unscripted. Like when Gene October of Chelsea pushes away his wedge monitors while the guitarist is up front soloing, then the guitarist drops back not knowing the monitors are in a different place, and he gets tripped ass over teakettle. And keeps right on playing the whole time.

Re: Stop Making Sense (D: Demme) - 4K restoration coming to theaters

For whatever reason, I never saw the movie, and I only know “Burning Down the House” and “Once in a Lifetime” from the Heads oeuvre. But a lot of friends were talking about this movie, and it is considered the Greatest Concert Film of All-Time, so I wanted to see it. I was checking Fandango for Taylor Swift times and noticed that Talking Heads had no local showtimes after yesterday, so I skipped work early and saw it (non-IMAX or even lieMAX).

I really enjoyed it. The music was good, it was imaginatively shot by Jonathan Demme, and the performance was mesmerizing. And 100% of the audience (nine people) stayed through the end credits. I really like concert films so I’ll probably buy this at some point. And this morning I have “Psycho Killer” stuck in my head.

Typo. Meant to say wasn't like this. I mean, there was dancing, but not up blocking the screen. Although watching this clip again, that would have been fun to experience.

Re: Stop Making Sense (D: Demme) - 4K restoration coming to theaters

My daughter (who I mentioned went to the live Q&A showing) works in a modern art museum in NYC. In what had to be the highlight of her young professional career so far, she met David Byrne last week at the museum. She told him that she loved his work and it has been very important to her for her whole life. He was gracious and thanked her. She was SO happy!
