Barbara Crampton has been promoting her new movie because she said if they strike she won't be able to talk about any project she's involved with for a while.

For starters, this will eliminate a bunch of actor driven panels at SDCC next week. Off the top of my head, Stephen Amell and the cast of Heels was scheduled to be there. I also saw the cast of Quantum Leap was supposed to be there as well.

A good thread from Rachel Zeigler. She has a lot of respect for the below the line workers and crews who are going to get affected. And she even says in this thread that she's lucky that she's had stable work for the last 4 years through COVID. No one knew who she was prior to Westside Story.

The streaming services are gonna have a hell of a hard time getting people to keep paying $15 - $16 per month per service if the new content dries up.

I'd think the streaming services could pivot to licensing international content as a stopgap, as long as they have some time to do so. They are probably a little better positioned than network/cable and/or movies.

You also have DGA members who are WGA member too and could push for changes there too.

As it is there's probably no reality TV now. At least nothing with a host or celebrity subjects. I guess they can still shoot 90 Day Fiancee and Outdaughtered and My 600 Lb Life. But that's kind of it. No Dancing with the Stars, no Amazing Race, no Survivor, no American Idol, no Top Chef.

Looks like if there are any SAG-AFTRA actors booked on any UK Equity Union jobs, they still have to report to work.
also looks like House of the Dragon season 2 won't be disrupted because the UK actors hired are working under the Equity union.

Equity actors are not allowed to strike to support SAG/AFTRA because of UK legislative laws.

Last time they still aired Big Brother but I guess that wasn't a SAG strike just a writer's strike?

This is amazing :
This doesn't just sound like an episode of The Black Mirror, it actually is the plot of the most recent season premiere.

Since this will postpone everything for a while, the trickle down effect will most likely fuck over movie theaters since they will have nothing to show. I'm not talking about right this second either, but for upcoming major slates of projects will now be pushed back for who knows how long.

I watched the entire press conference. I was impressed with how Fran articulated herself and described the situation. After that weird YouTube video was released with an overly optimistic update, she basically said that everything went downhill after that.
Fran and the chief negotiator were pretty pissed about how the press blew up the Italy situation. The press made it sound like she was there for a vacation. She said she was there for a long booked business engagement for some product she endorses and after she was done with that, she was there via Zoom for all meetings.
The whole thing that they mentioned about scanning background actors and being able to save and use their likeness without any compensation for perpetuity is bullshit.

Re: Screen Actors Strike 2023
We just went through 50-something layoffs 2 months ago. All veteran below the line workers. One worked there since the launch of the network 20 years ago. Not a single senior manager, producer or executive got let go. The show I worked on for 6+ years got canceled even though it was the highest rated daytime show on our network. I had my hours cut this summer. And the league got paid $110M plus for 1 playoff game next season on a streaming network. And, they just came off one of their most profitable years and one of the highest rated Super Bowls. But, the corporate office's excuse was they needed to tighten the belts, slash the budgets due to lesser subscribers and loss of ad revenue. Although I don't work in entertainment like you, the corporate bosses in sports think exactly the same as Entertainment CEOs. How do you make more with less? It just frustrates the heck out of me.

I get what he's saying, but I wonder how many producers/actors/whoever who take home obscene amounts of money think of sharing that with, say, the custodial staff or the writers or whatever? I'm sure some do, and I agree that they should push the studios making the projects to pay everyone, just not sure it's a common thing.
