Attack of the Doc! G4/Attack of the Show documentary April 24, 2023

Feel free to move this to TV talk if the mods think it's better suited there, but this documentary is finally coming out on April 24th.

Before the rise of big tech, social media and Marvel movies, Attack of the Show! chronicled nerd culture’s unlikely acceptance into the mainstream. G4TV’s flagship show launched the careers of hosts Olivia Munn and Kevin Pereira and was beloved by fans — a unique celebration of geek culture before it was cool. Diving into colossal cream pies, wearing funny fat suits and putting internet servers where the sun don’t shine – anything could happen on an episode of Attack of the Show! It's been years since the original show went off the air and one question remains: what really happened to G4TV and Attack of the Show?

loved the original run of this show. truly felt like you were just hanging out with friends in their garage goofing around.

I loved Attack of the Show and G4 back in the day. It's a shame the G4 revival imploded.

Other than the website mentioned at the end of the trailer, where else can I watch this?

You can preorder it on Vimeo for $14.99 or rent it for $2.99

I messaged them on twitter and its should be available on Vudu, Amazon, and iTunes/Apple TV too.

I was one of the backers on Kickstarter. Just waiting for digital access on April 24th.

I have a feel Chris Hardwick isn't going to be in this documentary. Chris Gore directed it and there's some bad blood between the two. I'm going to buy it if it's available on Vudu or Apple TV/iTunes.

I somehow didn't know there was a beef between the two. Was this post-G4? If so, it makes sense I wouldn't know as I lost track of all of them, except for Olivia Munn (since I still see her in movies from time to time).

Yes it was post G4, when Hardwick had a former girlfriend speak out against him, Chris Gore defended Hardwick's girlfriend and there is bad blood between them. Gore tweeted: I always knew Chris Hardwick was a big Hollywood phony and an asshole but I never knew he was so abusive.

AMC did an investigation and couldn't confirm if there was any truth to what Hardwick's former girlfriend said.

Just got my email with links to watch the doc. Looks like I have to download the Vimeo app or go the vimeo website, click the link and enter the password provided. Can't do that now and don't have time to watch now anyway.

I can't believe it's not on iTunes, Vudu, or Amazon. There's no Vimeo app for Roku. I don't really want to have to watch it on my computer... I guess I could try to cast it to my Roku from my phone or iPad.

That was a fun one. Still waiting for the "proof" she and her then bf kept harping about having.

Maybe it was the only platform that has the ability to have password protection so only backers can watch for now,

Didn't know anything about this one. I used to watch it when Adam and Morgan hosted. I lost interest and cut the chord when Kevin and Olivia took over.

Those were fun times. I really liked TechTv, and ZDnet. I still watched after it became G4, mostly just "The Screen Savers", err, uh, I mean "Attack of the Show" and "X-Play".

But, that time is over. Time to move on.

Re: Attack of the Doc! G4/Attack of the Show documentary April 24, 2023

Just finished watching. As one would expect a lot of smiles at some of the bits replayed and talked about. They go in depth as to the how the show started, Kevin on becoming a host and, of course Olivia. They looked at a bunch of audition tapes and brought in some to see how the chemistry was with Kevin. Didn't know they were big on Whitney Cummings (later was big as a writer/producer) until they saw him with a "Lisa" Munn with almost zero credits to her show biz name.

A lot of off-screen production people were the main participants in the doc with the exception of Chris Gore and Zach Selwyn who sings several songs he wrote for the doc. Doc is broken down to three parts: The start, the rise, the fall of the show. One thing they point out several times in the doc was stuff they did that you couldn't get away with now. The doc ends with Chris doing one final DVDuesday. Of course it was this doc and it was a buy. Very apropos.

During the credits they list all the Kickstarter backers. It was cool seeing my name.

This is out on VOD for everyone today. It’s on Vimeo, Amazon and YouTube. $2.99 to rent $9.99 to purchase on Amazon

This was really good. Very thorough and interesting. I was a fan. I didn’t watch every ep or from the beginning, but I loved what I saw. This docu really goes through everything. From Marvel to SW and so much more. Really worth the $0 I paid to rent via Amazon. Not even sure why, but totally would have paid a bit. Good stuff.

You must have had credits that you didn't realize you had.

I guess I'll buy this while it's on Amazon for $9.99. I'd rather get it on Vudu or iTunes, but Amazon's better than Vimeo. Edited to add. I did buy it for $9.99 at Amazon. It's $14.99 at Vimeo and $17.99 at YouTube Movies and TV.

I watched this tonight. I liked it, but there were no on camera interviews with anyone. It was mainly people that worked behind the scenes. I guess most interviews were conducted on the phone or via Zoom due to the pandemic. It needed some on camera interviews with some on the on air talent. That would have made it great instead of just good. I'll give it a 7.5/10. Some of the AOTS footage that aired in SD looked really fuzzy and blurry on HD and 4K tvs now.

I watched on my Chromebook. Even the old footage was fine. I wasn't about to cast it on my tv.

I still crack up on the segment when Olivia calls MC Hammer "McHammer" as if fe worked for McDonalds and her reaction when Kevin called her out on the mistake.

I tried watching a little bit of it (the Kel mitchell scene) on my newest 4k tv and the older 4:3 footage is fuzzy and blurry. I also watched it on my much older sd digital computer monitor and it still looks fuzzy and blurry, but that was probably the best footage they could get it. They only raised $80,000 on gofundme. It was probably the best they could do.

Didn’t Chris Hardwick get his start on this show? I saw him very briefly in couple of clips, but I thought he came from here.

Yes, he was on there. Not every day of the week though. Can't remember how often he would appear. He was a host of Singled Out on MTV before that though.

Sessler doesn't care to watch or discuss the doc for some reason
