Half Baked: Totally High (2024)

EXCLUSIVE: Half Baked 2, the sequel to the 1998 cult comedy, has finished production in Baton Rouge, LA with Rachel True reprising her role as Mary Jane in the Universal 1440 Entertainment title. Also joining the cast is Maze Runner‘s Dexter Darden, as well as Moses Storm (Moses Storm: Trash White, Everything’s Trash), Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), Ash Santos (True Story), Joel Courtney (Super 8, The Kissing Booth), and David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

The film will also feature special appearances by Frankie Muniz, comedian Jeff Ross and original cast member Harland Williams.

Half Baked 2 follows Thurgood Jenkins’ son JR (Darden) and his best friends Miles (Storm) and Cori (Young) as they search for the money to bury their other best friend Bruce (Courtney), who died from smoking the most powerful joint in the world. Michael Tiddes (Sextuplets, Naked) directs off a script by Justin Hires (MacGyver, 21 Jump Street). Pic is produced by Griff Furst (Where All Light Tends to Go, 57 Seconds).

“We are thrilled to announce the next chapter in Half Baked, with new characters and a hilarious story that is sure to satisfy followers of the original film while attracting a whole new generation of fans,” said Glenn Ross, General Manager and Executive Vice President, Universal 1440 Entertainment. “The sequel features a talented young cast alongside Rachel True reprising her role as the fan-favorite ‘Mary Jane.’ We can’t wait to show audiences where the story goes from here.”

Half Baked 2 will debut on non-theatrical platforms worldwide next year from Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. The original 1998 movie, which also starred Dave Chappelle and Jim Breuer, grossed $17.4M at the domestic box office.

I think I speak for nearly everyone when I say no Chappelle (and Breuer for that matter), no sale

Won’t seem the same. I do hope it is a worthy sequel. It could be a direct to video thing.

When I was a kid, I thought smoking weed was going to be way cooler than it really is.

With weed being legal in many places, stoner movies seem kinda quaint and pointless now.

It makes them seem less taboo now that's for sure. I never liked Half Baked that much and would rather see another Harold and Kumar sequel.

I used to love Half Baked, even though I wasn't a pot smoker. It's not a movie that I ever really wanted a sequel to. With the way Bruer's been acting, I don't care if he's not there, but losing Chappelle is kind of a bummer.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is preparing a Blu-ray release of Michael Tiddes' Half Baked: Totally High (2023), starring Dexter Darden, Moses Storm, David Koechner, and Frankie Muniz. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on April 16.

Description: Ever since they first shared a joint as kids 10 years ago, JR, Miles, Cori and Bruce have been best buds. But their love of chronic kickstarts chaos after Bruce puffs on a fabled doobie containing 3 strains of weed that turns out to be fatal. Strapped for cash to send Bruce's body across the country for burial, the three remaining stoners stumble across an amazing strain of marijuana and blaze a trail across L.A.'s underground pot market, destroying the business of a ruthless and now very unhappy drug lord. This amps up the hilarious adventure that gets lit with outrageous antics, surprising suspense, and nonstop laughs.
