Even though I won’t be contributing theatrically, I am thrilled this did so well. I mean $150 million domestic is incredible. Tom Cruise and Pixar have saved seasons in Hollywood. Look forward to contributing when digital and/or physical.

The movie is funny, and I enjoyed it well enough, but I don't think it holds a candle to the first one. Nearly every Pixar movie I've seen has an emotional sequence that's made me cry either from heartbreak (Up) or feeling of profound love (Soul), yet this one didn't get into those deep waters. And I don't believe this is a case of me being unable to "relate" to the main character, as I've seen plenty of films illustrating the inner life of a young girl that feel as universal as any other.
Very excited to see this likely being the biggest movie of the year (1.3-1.5billion) but it's got to be a little bittersweet given the Pixar layoffs earlier this year. (I read as much as 14%) PIxar probably needs to adopt the model of one established IP release, one lesser expensive new movie for awhile.

Inside Out 2 has already surpassed Dune Chapter 2 as the top grossing film of 2024. In its second weekend. Remarkable.
I saw it on Friday. I really liked it. Best Pixar film I’ve seen in a while. I didn’t enjoy Elemental at all, despite its eventual success at the Box Office. This I thought was really clever and not so heavy-handed. It wasn’t as good as the original, and not nearly as emotionally resonant — never teared up even once. But it did work. I found it quite clever in depicting the complex emotions of adolescence. And Anxiety was a hilarious character, both in appearance and how she was voiced by Maya Hawke. My wife and jaded teenage son both liked it as well. Very good animated film. Glad to finally see Pixar return to form (though I did really like Turning Red also, another adolescent emotion film).

In a write-up in The New York Times today, Maya Phillips describes how INSIDE OUT 2's understanding treatment of anxiety resonated strongly with her.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/23/m...ty-adults.html
At the climax of Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” Riley, a freshly pubescent teen with a gaggle of new personified emotions, becomes so overwhelmed with anxiety that she has a panic attack.
In the theater, I whispered to my friend that I’d forgotten to bring my panic attack medication. I’d said it as a joke — but at the sight of this anxious animated teenager, my whole body’s choreography changed. My muscles tensed. I pressed my right palm down hard to my chest and took a few deep yoga breaths, trying to cut off the familiar beginnings of an attack.
This depiction of how quickly anxiety can take hold was overwhelming. I saw my own experiences reflected in Riley’s. “Inside Out 2” felt personal to me in a way that was equally cathartic and devastating: It’s a movie that so intimately understands how my anxiety disorder upends my everyday life.

Pixar’s Inside Out 2 has iced out fellow Disney release Frozen II to become the top-grossing Hollywood animated film of all time at the worldwide box office after finishing Tuesday with $1.462 billion, not adjusted for inflation. The film’s domestic total stands at $601 million, while it has grossed $861.8 million internationally.
Disney Animation’s Frozen II topped out at $1.451 billion in 2019. It now rests at No. 2 on the all-time animated list behind Illumination and Universal’s video game adaptation The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.361 billion), followed by the first Frozen ($1.274 billion) and Pixar’s Incredibles 2 ($1.242 billion), Illumination’s Minions ($1.157 billion), Toy Story 4 ($1.072 billion), Despicable Me 3 ($1.032 billion) and Finding Dory ($1 billion).

We saw this back in June and I keep thinking about it. Though time is tight and there are other movies out there, I think we're going to try to see this in the theater again.

These kinds of records should always be adjusted for inflation or go with tickets sold.
Just a headline grabber. I would like to see their top 10 when adjuster for inflation.

I liked it, but it didn’t resonate with me like the first one. The hockey story kinda fell flat. The anxiety character was the best part.
