Re: James Caan dead at 82
Mickey Blue Eyes was on cable tonight so I stopped to watch it for James Caan. The movie isn’t great but Caan gives a subtly comedic performance. He was really fun to watch.

Re: James Caan dead at 82
I read in some obit that James Caan had some conflict with John Wayne on the set of EL DORADO (1967) before co-star Robert Mitchum "brokered the peace," enabling things to go smoothly afterwards. I've never heard anything about this before, not in the numerous Howard Hawks interviews I've read or the bios of Wayne and Mitchum I've read. In the two better bios of Wayne and Mitchum, Caan is mentioned only in passing in one sentence each. That was disappointing. I'd love to know more. I don't have any books on James Caan, so he must have done an interview somewhere on the subject.
They look perfectly harmonious here: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...e33224bedd.jpg I did find a terribly written article about how much of a prankster Wayne was with Caan on set: https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertain...l-dorado.html/ |
Re: James Caan dead at 82
I realized I never said anything about this. I think he is one of the last of that great generation of actors. He was part of so many great movies, but Thief is him at his peak. And this scene here he considers his great piece of work, per a featurette called Stolen Dreams he did for the Arrow release. His screen presence alone was well worth seeing anything he was in. RIP.

James Caan's cause of death was a heart attack and coronary artery disease. |
Re: James Caan dead at 82
Watched Flesh and Bone today, where Caan has a small but pivotal role.
