Thanks so much for finally answering the question. I'm glad that we both agree that there are some very real problems with the movie. Going off your repeated postings, like the one below, to every single person that posts a critique of the film, I apparently got the wrong impression that you thought the only reason someone could think the 2016 Ghsotbusters film was terrible was due to toxic masculinity.

Even in the original, I don't recall the the proton packs being seen as being that heavy. They take a small bit of effort to get into place on their shoulders but once they're on the guys move around just fine. And keep in mind these are academics that aren't really in great shape (plus they're all heavy smokers!).

If a woman can tote around a baby and all the gear plus a heavy purse and whatnot, she can handle a damn proton pack.

In Ghostbusters II, Louis dons the Ghostbusters gear, takes about 10 steps, and makes a comment about how heavy the equipment is.

Of course, that’s Rick Moranis playing a character as nerdy and weak as possible.

It's been a while since I've watched, but he still makes it to the battle scene with it on, right? So it's heavy, but it's not like Atlas holding up the Earth heavy.

if I recall correctly, he ends up taking the bus.

I always assumed it was about the same weight as one of those leaf blower packs or a scuba tank. Nothing unmanageable.

Hopefully they'll battle a possessed painting while a river of slime runs under the building. But this time with kids. And maybe Winston will show up to say "that's one ugly dude". Anything less would be disrespectful to the franchise.

So looking at the movie slate they are holding, I guess the working title is Ghostbusters: Firehouse?

Would be a silly name if that is what it is. Likely just the code name / working title.

EXCLUSIVE: Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, comedian James Acaster and Emily Alyn Lind have joined the cast of the live-action sequel to Sony Pictures’ hit film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Gil Kenan is directing, and the previous pic’s cast including Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon will return as the setting shifts to the original films’ New York City and firehouse.

re: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024, D: Kenan)

Spoiler:
Walter Peck is the villain who, in hindsight, really isn’t a villain at all. Just a dude trying to do his job to protect the environment. The ghostbusters really didn’t take environmental affects into account and were being pretty reckless with their ghost traps.

The 2023 version of that character probably wouldn’t be seen in the same negative light.

I feel like I forgot Ghostbusters Afterlife existed about 2 days after seeing it. Not horrible, not great, just “meh” and another attempt to squeeze life out of a 40-year-old IP, really.

Nope. Looked and there's no release date now. Spring 2024 maybe? Principle is scheduled to end 7/1.

The release date is still December 20, 2023. That could change of course. We shall see.

re: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024, D: Kenan)

So if the release date is now uncertain, I'm assuming the script may need touch ups and they have no writer on set to help. Also, you have to factor in post production with special effects. I mean less than 6 months until release and they are still in principal photography? That sounds very tight. I don't think it would make it's December release.

So principal photography has wrapped

Story has details. A couple of the producers posted on Instagram that it's done. Looks like they probably will make their December release after all.

re: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024, D: Kenan)

They should just take Spider-Verse's release date next March and market the hell out of the 40th anniversary. Still looking forward to this one, being set in NY (I think?) should help it feel a little more Ghostbustery.
