I enjoyed the first movie well enough, but I was not buying what the sequel was selling. I thought this was pretty bad. The novelty of seeing Odenkirk wreak havoc was enough to carry the original, but whatever charm it had is completely gone for me. Maybe if the movie had been as funny as it seemed to think it was, I would feel differently. I'm surprised the reception (both here and elsewhere) has been as positive as it has been.

How does the "Action" work ?
In the Trailers it seems ... ohhhkey.
Specially cause TIMO- directed I thought ... maybe it will be more powerful "carnage" than the first (really good) one ...

Can some Martial- Arts- Geeks (or other) tell a little about the -Action-

Sure, I'll try. It's very similar to the first. Hutch is not an unstoppable killing machine. He takes a ton of hits. But he gets back up and is pretty brutal about ending a fight. He fights dirty, not "fair".

no worry ... Draven knows what I mean ...

to explain. what I meant was whether the choreography of the fights and the action in general is similar and/or better than in part 1.
in the trailer for part 2, the "fights" just seemed a bit ... how should I explain it ... just not that great.

Action similar but not quite to the level of the first. Sharon Stone’s insane performance may be my favorite thing in either film.

ah cool. i'm also looking forward to sharon stone's performance. here in germany some reviewers describe her acting as a bit too over-the-top... but there are also other opinions.
no matter what- i'm getting more and more excited about it. also nice that the film has a compact running time.

It’s totally over the top in this but on purpose. I could see it not working for some people but it really worked for me.

yeahh great. i have no problem with that. over the top- villains in a strip that doesn't take itself seriously and in the short time it runs off all the (literally) fun stuff ... that's great. others try to do that in well over 2 hours of runtime and fail miserably. lol.

The runtime was actually the deciding factor in me going to the theater for it and I was really glad I did. Hope you enjoy!

Funny, I thought she was totally miscast in this. She seemed to really be trying hard to act "insane, kooky, crazy" and the problem was...it felt like acting. None of it seemed natural and came across as forced.

But basically, you could say that for the entire film. Everything seemed forced and unnatural. The action, the humor, the insipid, silly plot, etc.

I may have made a mistake by rewatching the original so soon before this one because it really apes too much from the first one. I actually enjoyed the first one more the second time around but this one just mostly failed on every level. I get what they were going for with the sequel, but it just came across as cold, stale, and so desperately trying to be both cool and funny.

I know it sounds like I hated it, but I didn't. It was just a big disappointment, and I didn't even go in with high expectations since the trailer seemed fairly dumb. This was just average on every level. And it is hard to dislike Bob Odenkirk or Christopher Lloyd in anything.

My rating was **1/2 out of *****

ps...Was something going on with Christopher Lloyd's face or eyes during filming? They had in in dark shades the entirety of the movie with just one seen briefly without his glasses and then his face was mostly obscured. Just found it strange and almost distracting.

Agreed that the performance wasn’t natural at all. Still deserves to sweep the Oscars.

I enjoyed this. I laughed that the end setup is basically Home Alone. I know they did it in the first one too. This felt more on the nose.

I’m not as sold on this brand of John Wick style action films. Still miss the scale and thrill of those 90’s action films and can’t figure out why nobody is making them anymore.

This is now streaming on Peacock. I'm still planning to buy the 4k but just haven't gotten it yet. I'll give it a watch on Peacock this weekend.

I just watched this and had a blast. It is more over-the-top, as I feared, but it somehow works given Hutch is not unstoppable. It helps ground the silliness better than the borderline superheroics of the Wick movies (which I nonetheless enjoy).

Watched it on Peacock last night . . . I had fun, but I don't think I liked it. The problem for me happened in the very beginning. In the first one, I bought in on Odenkirk as somebody who had gotten out and was happy until the beast was awakened, and he was pulled back in. In the very first segment, my reaction was "Oh, so he's just a psychopath who is enjoying this now." I did not get a whiff of "this is making me feel alive again" (which I could have bought), but simply "I am enjoying this, but doing it for work is tedious."

The rest of the movie followed that MO: it seemed to have a WHOLE BUNCH of abandoned plot lines that would have added meaning to this action romp with no heart or soul. It was a mountain of shorthand, from Sharon Stone's lack of a character to the details that could have made it a much better movie.

But it was fun!
