I feel like A24 trailers often have one vibe and the actual movies have another vibe. Honestly, I'd have to think about it to offer actual examples, so take that with a grain of salt.

This only gets half of the equation.
I remember. I bring the running time up as it feels as too many "important" movies feel like they go on forever when it's over 140 minutes or longer. Some movies warrant a longer running time but a lot of times they need better editing.

From 4 years to 5 hours to under 2 hours . . . these Civil Wars just keep getting shorter and shorter.

Just saw this at a early preview. I liked it a lot but didn't love it. I'll save my thoughts for the 'review' thread.

I have a friend whom I've known since middle school who is conservative, and he posted on FB he hopes people don't go see this because it's anti right propaganda

I was actually curious if the opposite was going to happen.

I wouldn't call that a spoiler per se as it's in the trailer.

Interesting interview with Garland on The Daily Show tonight. He does touch briefly on the fact that the movie’s politics aren’t exactly as described by those who are preemptively passing judgement without having seen it. Also, as someone who graduated to be a journalist, and having spent much of my career working very closely adjacent to them for many years, it’s always nice when someone, finally, admits that they’re ‘over’ the demonization and vilification of journalists, and who actually stands up for them. So few people know what’s truly involved in the profession, and the rules that legitimate journalists abide by, but everybody’s an f’n expert these days, or thinks they’re journalists simply because they have social media followings:

Re: Civil War (2024, D: Garland) S: Dunst, Spaeny, Moura

Saw today's matinee and it was quite an experience. The movie is very quiet, and slow paced until it gets LOUD. Bouncing back and forth between these two extremes make a pretty grueling viewing experience. You really feel the vibrations of the gunshots and the explosions. The final half hour is very tense. I could hear a lot of audible reactions from my packed theatre during the final sequence. This was not a "fun" movie to watch, but if you're like me, you don't want every movie to be fun. I don't get scared at horror movies, but this replicates that experience of being made to feel uncomfortable and then having the relief of it being over.

It is very episodic, and made me think of the old Twilight Zone episodes that presented you with a very possible real-world scenario to make you consider how you would act.

I have a feeling this will be one of the more memorable mainstream movies I'll see this year.

I really want to see this. What's the rating and content of this (for those that have seen it) as far as "adult material" goes?

In Canada it's 14A (it seems like almost nothing gets 18A anymore the last few years), but the movie is completely adult, both in the graphicness of its violence and its tone. It's a not an exciting movie, but a harrowing one.
