re: A24 Movie Ranking

I won't try to rank their output, but I'll say this about A24: I haven't watched anything they produced/distributed and felt like my time was wasted or that I regretted watching it. Even their movies that I haven't really cared for had interesting aspects to them. At this point, if they're putting something out, I'll see it.

This. Their movies are the equivalent of pizza: Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.

re: A24 Movie Ranking

A24 is one of the very few studios left whose output I will always keep an eye out for. They always have something interesting/intriguing going on.

Ranked in general order of preference:

Uncut Gems
The Green Knight
Hereditary
The Lighthouse

The Florida Project
Midsommar
Ex Machina

The Disaster Artist
The Witch
Lady Bird

re: A24 Movie Ranking

There's movies you guys are listing that I wasn't even aware were A24. But as I said before, all good. I think the only one I'd give a thumbs-down to was High Life, I friggin' hated that movie. But my favorites (in no order) would be:

Room
Good Time
The Florida Project
The Farewell
American Honey
Midsommar
The Witch
Eighth Grade
Uncut Gems
The Last Movie Star

Currently playing on Showtime and based on a play

Except for a few scenes with Richard Jenkins and Steven Yeun it is a complete bore.

I hope it's better than I'm Dangerous Tonight, a lame 90s made-for-TV snoozer about a "killer red dress" directed by a slumming Tobe Hooper (though it did have a Twin Peaks-era Madchen Amick, and that ain't a bad thing).

As someone who grew up dirt poor and raised by a single mother, I find it hard to relate with coming of age films about insufferable spoiled brats who constantly complain about how difficult their lives are.

Re: A24 Movie Ranking

I'll say this for A24: They really have a house style.

Once I started noticing their logo and learned about the company -- around the time I watched Midsommar and Hereditary -- I can randomly start watching a movie on cable (Killing of a Sacred Deer, It Comes at Night, Under the Silver Lake) and pretty accurately deduce that it's an A24 film.

And I can also think back to recent movies I watched like Under the Skin, American Honey, The VVitch, and Ex Machina and know that they're A24 films, too.

I was actually kind of surprised that It Follows wasn't an A24 jam.

Showtime (If you have the channel) has become the current library for A24 movies during these past few months. Saw both 20th Century Women and The Ballad of Lefty Brown there very recently and I'm looking forward to viewing many more these coming weeks.
