Broken Lizard's Quasi (2023, D: Heffernan)

Searchlight and Broken Lizard, the production company behind the Super Troopers series, has started production on its next comedy Quasi, with Broken Lizard’s Kevin Heffernan set to direct. The film is a satirical take on the Hunchback of Notre Dame story, with Heffernan and the rest of the Broken Lizard members Steve Lemme, Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske writing the script, exec producing and starring. Richard Perello is producing the film, which also stars Adrianne Palicki.

The film will stream exclusively on Disney’s direct-to-consumer platforms as a Hulu Original in the U.S., on Star+ in Latin America, and on Disney+ in all other territories.

The plot follows a hapless hunchback who only yearns for love, but finds himself in the middle of a murderous feud between the Pope and the King of France when each orders the hunchback to kill the other.

Heffernan and Chandrasekhar are represented by UTA, Lemme by CAA, Soter by Echo Lake Entertainment and Stolhanske by CSP Management. Palicki is repped by WME.

I really liked Super Troopers at the time, never really liked any of their followups. I figure I'll watch this at some point, but don't really expect to like it too much.

I’m with you. I’ve tried to like Super Troopers because of the high praise it always gets and find the characters more annoying than funny. Reno 911 does it so much better! I also tried to like Club Dread and didn’t find it funny at all. I’m glad all these dudes are having fun making these movies, they’re just not very good.

Judging by that Quasi poster, I’m not expecting this to be very good either. It looks like a bunch of frat boys dressed up for a medieval themed kegger.

I wouldn't be surprised if that exact thing happens.

Definitely seems to be a period movie. Just their version of Humpback of ND.

I'm a fan of most of their stuff. Slammin Salmon will always be a classic to me just because of Michael Clarke Duncan. He was so good in it.

Funny. I have it the opposite way. I find 911 characters annoying and like ST. Must be the accents.

I like Broken Lizard, but I didn't smile or laugh once in the first 20 minutes. I'll sit this one out. Too much stuff to watch and actually enjoy.

Well, this was one of their least efforts, unfortunately. It was like Broken Lizard's riff on historical satires like Life of Brian or History of the World Part 1. It didn't bring anything new to the table though, and I think I only chuckled a couple times.

Re: Broken Lizard's Quasi (2023, D: Heffernan)

I admit that I have tried to muster up the desire to finish this up (I think I am at most 20 minutes into the film) because I like the cast over the past several months but I just decide to watch something else. Hulu films like Rosaline and The Warrior did a great job drawing me into the film so I watched each of those films from start to finish once I started them up, not so much with this film. It is not offensively bad, but it is lacking a certain spark to draw me in.
