This is definitely the kind of movie my kids will want to watch (whether we do so in the theater is another matter entirely), so there's that.

I mean at least it's not another live action hybrid like Tom and Jerry...

I admit I still read the daily comic and it makes me feel young with a connection to my childhood.

I used to buy all the collections and now I'm wondering what number they're on now.

76 books, there is an Amazon Kindle format listing for all 76 volumes for over $600, yikes.
I will be honest, at the right price I would probably grab all 76 volumes. I got into at least the high teens before I drifted away from the series.

Yeah I used to be really into it, I had all of them, the treasuries, and even US Acres. But wow 76 volumes...

I was also obsessed with Garfield as a kid and had many of the volumes up through about 21 or 22.
A few months back I actually purchased the original art for the strip that ran on my 10th birthday. That inspired me to seek out digital copies of the volumes I had as a kid, only to find out they're only available in color now. Apparently Davis's company (which he recently sold to Viacom) only owns the rights to the colorized versions. United Features still maintains control of the black and white versions, which is why those are unavailable anywhere.
It sounds dumb, but I tried reading the colorized versions and I just couldn't do it. If I'm going to read something purely for nostalgia's sake (and let's be honest, there's really no other reason to read Garfield), then it has to be the way I remember it. Otherwise what's the point?

I wouldn’t mind seeing this. I’m sure it won’t be anything super memorable but looks fun.

Reminds me of the nonsense when Netflix was sued over Enola Holmes because Henry Cavill smiled in one scene. It seems that smile constitutes Sherlock Holmes showing emotion and only an unemotional Sherlock Holmes is in the public domain. Any depiction of Sherlock Holmes where he displays any sort of emotion belongs to some rights holders (whom I've forgotten).

I had a Garfield and Odie plush toys and the Garfield plush with the plastic suction cups that people I think sticked on their cars.
I remember the primetime specials that aired on CBS in the 80's.
I thought maybe they would have done a Xmas special that would air somewhere during the holiday season.
I think there is a Garfield and Friends fast channel on Samsung Plus and the LG streaming channels.

Kids just got out of school. Thinking of taking them to the movies on Tuesday to celebrate. I guess the choice is between this or If.

My wife and I saw this tonight. Just a very basic animated movie aimed at kids and families but we knew that walking in. We both thought it was pretty cute for what it was.
The voice acting was decent. A bit sick of Chris Pratt being in so many of these types of movies but he’s fine enough. The storyline is overall pretty basic but I didn’t expect a ton. Animation looked good overall for the style.
I grew up with Garfield and Friends and also read the comic strip back in the day. I’ve always liked the characters. Never really watched the live action/CG movies but this one being animated appealed more to me.
Not a groundbreaking movie by any means but I still enjoyed it and can see myself buying and rewatching it again at some point.

Yeah this was pretty inoffensive kids fair as one would expect. I would've preferred to see IF but was overruled. Tons of obvious product placement though: Fedex, Olive Garden, Walmart, etc.
Wasn't too put off by Pratt's voice, I thought he did fine invoking the old voices. Sam Jackson was distracting to me though.
I admitted earlier that I haven't read Garfield in a while... has it changed a lot (anyone actually still read it?) I was kind of surprised because the Odie I remember was a hapless dog that was the object of Garfield's meanness. In this he's more of a do everything, competent dog that still serves Garfield. It's like they toned down some of the surlyness of Garfield which I always thought was his defining trait.
Anyway looking forward to the Family Circus cinematic universe that I'm sure is coming.

Too bad there is no 4k disc release but I guess that is what you expect from Sony Columbia?

It was not that bad.
I assume they will do a sequel.
I had no idea Nicholas Hoult did the voice of Jon and it did not sound like a voice that I pictured Jon having.
Angus Cloud the deceased actor from Euphoria does a voice in this and his passing is mentioned in the closing credits with a dedication.
