Greenland 2: Migration (2026 D: Waugh) S: Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin

Not sure if it warrants a separate thread.. I'll let dex decide.

Greenland’ Sequel in the Works, With Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin Set to Return
Producer and financier Anton, Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Pictures and Butler and Alan Siegel’s G-BASE are producing ahead of a 2022 shoot for the feature.

Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin are set to return for a sequel to the 2020 disaster film Greenland now in the works.

Butler will reprise his role as structural engineer John Garrity, alongside co-star Morena Baccarin as Allison Garrity. Director Ric Roman Waugh will return to helm the sequel, based on a script by Greenland writer Chris Sparling.

Financier Anton, Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Pictures (John Wick) and Butler and Alan Siegel’s G-BASE are producing.

The sequel will once again follow the Garrity family, who survive a near-extinction level event when an interstellar comet hits the earth and must leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a perilous journey across the decimated frozen wasteland of Europe to find a new home.

Anton is fully financing the film and controlling all rights, with CAA Media Finance set to partner on the U.S. sale. The Greenland sequel will shoot in 2022.

The original Greenland feature debuted last summer. Ric Roman Waugh said in a statement: “Greenland spoke to our humanity in the middle of a global catastrophic event, highlighting what people are capable of doing to one another, both good and bad, when it’s life or death. The irony is we made the first film pre Covid and watched many situations come to reality. I’m really looking forward to the next chapter of The Garritys post the first extinction event.”

Butler is represented by Alan Siegel Entertainment and CAA.

This could be interesting. I liked the first one well enough, it will be interesting to see if the new one has a cure for diabetes or if the plot revolves around the kid's meds again.

Since the 1st one was surprisingly good, I am ok with a sequel.

The sequel could be interesting with the re-building of their society and dealing with other threats.

Deadline says the sequel is called "Greenland: Migration"

Maybe in the sequel he can finally call his neighbor to let him know what's up...

I'm down for more Baccarin Funny thing is when I saw this thread had popped back up, I laughed as I joked to myself thinking "Greenland 2: Electric Boogaloo".

Little did I expect a sequel was actually in the works.

I was pleasantly surprised by the first one. A sequel that involves the family roaming a post-apocalyptic wasteland (assuming it’s not ALL frozen tundra) could be fun!

I’d assume the sequel would be more “Man vs. Nature” situations rather than “Man vs. Man” like the first one.

I dunno.. I'd like to see Elite Bunker Man vs Top Side Survivor Man. Maybe they find their way back to see how much of their home was destroyed only to find some his neighbors still alive and pissed he never called.

Could be interesting if done right, but these rarely are. Still I'll give it a shot.

Yeah I read the article. It says that STX beat out some streamers as well for the rights.

At least now this movie should get a full theatrical run whenever it does come out.

Nice! I was just thinking about this the other day, wondering if they were still going to make the sequel. Butler keeps pretty busy.

re: Greenland 2: Migration (2026 D: Waugh) S: Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin

Lionsgate will handle U.S. distribution of eagerly awaited “Greenland” sequel “Greenland: Migration,” Variety can confirm.

STX, which has a distribution partnership with Lionsgate, is handling international distribution.

Directed by Ric Roman Waugh (“Greenland,” “Angel Has Fallen”) from a screenplay by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune, “Greenland: Migration” sees Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin return as John and Allison Garrity. Along with their diabetic son Nathan, the couple were forced to flee in the first film as a comet hurtled towards earth, threatening to destroy the planet. In the sequel the family embark on a perilous journey across what’s left of Europe to find a new home.

Butler and Baccarin are joined by Roman Griffin Davis (“Jojo Rabbit”), Amber Rose Revah (“The Punisher”) and Trond Fausa (“Oppenheimer”) in the film, which is produced by Anton, STX Entertainment, Thunder Road Pictures and Butler’s G-BASE Entertainment.

“In the film, the Garrity family, having found the safety of the Greenland bunker after the comet Clarke decimated the Earth, must risk everything to embark on a harrowing journey across the wasteland of Europe to find a new home,” reads the logline.

Currently in production, the project is set to shoot on location in the U.K. and Iceland.

Despite being released theatrically at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in the summer of 2020, “Greenland” dominated the box office across 26 countries, grossing over $52 million internationally. In the U.S. it debuted on PVOD before moving to Max.

“The marriage of large-scale action spectacle with an emotionally resonant, character driven story was very effective, and left audiences wanting to know what happens next,” said Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “Gerard, Ric, Basil, Erica and the team have found a visually and emotionally compelling answer to the question and we’re thrilled to be a part of bringing that story to the screen.”

Producer Sébastien Raybaud added: “We’re delighted to have reunited with this amazing cast and crew, and to continue telling the exhilarating story of the Garrity family as they begin their next adventure in this post-apocalyptic world. We can’t wait for audiences to see what is in store for them.”

Noah Fogelson, CEO of STX Entertainment said: “Ric, Gerry, Basil and all our filmmaking partners and collaborators have delivered an incredible epic story as the Garritys continue their quest for survival after an unparalleled global catastrophe. We are thrilled to be starting production and continuing our partnership with the team at Lionsgate. With the care and bespoke treatment they give to every film, we know ’Greenland: Migration’ is in the best possible hands.”

Alan Siegel of G-BASE said: “Working together again with our friends at ThunderRoad, Anton, Cinemachine, and STX is the ultimate gratifying experience. Gerry and I were blown away by the way in which we all bonded together seamlessly to produce a stunning first movie and we’re even more excited about our next adventure with the gang.”

Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, Anton’s Sébastien Raybaud and John Zois, G-BASE’s Butler and Alan Siegel and CineMachine’s Waugh and Brendon Boyea are producing. Executive producers on the project are Robert Simonds, Noah Fogelson and Sam Brown for STX Entertainment and Chris Sparling.

“Greenland: Migration” is fully financed by Anton. Lionsgate and STX bought the film for the U.S. while STX bought the world.

Roman Griffin Davis is repped by Independent Talent Group, WME and Untitled Entertainment. Amber Rose Revah is repped by Accelerate and Luber Rocklin. Trond Fausa is repped by Denton Brierley, Crimson Media and Lev Ginsburg.

I guess I'm in the minority. I got neither the point of nor the love for the first one. It was rather pedantic.

I'm not sure you're using that word correctly.

Per Cambridge Dictionary:

pedantic
(adjective - disapproving)
UK /pəˈdæn.tɪk/ US /pedˈæn.tɪk/

giving too much attention to formal rules or small details:

--They were being unnecessarily pedantic by insisting that Berry himself, and not his wife, should have made the announcement.

----------------

pedantic
(adjective)
US /pɪˈdænt·ɪk/

caring too much about unimportant rules or details and not enough about understanding or appreciating a subject:

-- Professor Harris had a narrow, pedantic approach to history that put us to sleep.

  2. Expressing indifference or lack of enthusiasm.
