That tagline makes me think of the ending of Millennium (the movie, not the series).

"This is not the beginning of the end. It's the end of the beginning".

Not many watched the 1st one since it came out during Covid and was direct to VOD. It was one of my extremely rare PVOD rentals that I did during that time. I did like the 1st movie and the trailer looked good. I will check this out.

Looks like a fun, full-on disaster movie. I'm in.

I watched the first a few times. I think it's the best of the crop of "end of world, get to this place" disaster movies.

And Waugh is really good at adding a serious tone to his movies. He also had "Shot Caller", which is the top of the crime/prison movies.

I remember the first one being fine. I'll likely watch this.

Plenty of people watched it.

The film grossed $52.3 million worldwide with a production budget of $35 million.

With no U.S. and Canada theatrical release. Sure, it did get some eyes on it from VOD and HBO Max.

I am glad the sequel is getting a full release.

Yeah, enough money to get the sequel, which is cool. It sold well on Blu-ray, as well.

Lionsgate had free tickets for screenings last night. I was too tired to go.

Got my ticket for this and it will be my first AMC flick at their new XL theater.

How does XL compare with all the other myriad AMC screens? Just another way for them to charge more?

My AMC already has IMAX, Dolby Cinema and Prime premium screens.

The main difference is that: AMC Laser refers to the technology (4K Laser Projection for a brighter, clearer picture), while XL at AMC(Extra-Large) is a format for the biggest non-PLF (Premium Large Format like IMAX/Dolby) screens in a theater, which also uses 4K Laser projection, making them essentially the same premium viewing experience but branded differently to denote screen size. Think of it as: Laser is the how (tech), XL is the where (biggest screen), and most XL auditoriums now use Laser tech.

Most of the regular screens at my AMC have laser. A lot are listed like this.

Yeah, so an XL theater is that but on a 40ft screen / bigger auditorium/more seating, etc.

It's not Dolby Cinema or IMAX.

Re: Greenland 2: Migration (2026 D: Waugh) S: Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin

I won't worry unless they get XL locally.

In a nutshell I wish AMC was more transparent with what each "premium screen" entails (screen size, audio specs) so one can compare what is being paid for instead of AMC Hype description: i.e., if price is same what makes XL a better choice than Prime other than being the "new thing".

This will be T-Mobile Tuesday’s $5 ticket through Atom tickets next week.

I’m a little surprised it’s only 98 minutes. I’m tentatively planning to see it next Thursday.

No premium screens in my area. It is getting an AMC XL screen about 25 minutes away, but I’m not driving there for this.

Wait, they're migrating again?

I loved the first one, wrote this on letterbxd

One of the best disaster movies I’ve ever seen.
It feels like something that could happen and nothing is played as corny or silly like in the movie 2012, which I also like.

Opens today. Going to see it at 7:25pm. I just re-watched the 1st one on HBO Max to refresh my memory.

Not many reviews. 60% on RT with 20 so far.

Re: Greenland 2: Migration (2026 D: Waugh) S: Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin

I just got back from seeing it. I would probably give it a solid B. Not as good as the first one, but the first one did have a lot of dumb things happen to the Garrity family. But this one was shorter, around 95 minutes, and tighter. It for the most part went straight to the point. The Greenland bunker has now become uninhabitable, so the Garrity family have to go to a new location somewhere in Southern Europe. And they run into a lot of trouble along the way, including the elements of a post asteroid destroyed world. And war torn zones.

This one has a smaller cast and I think a smaller budget as well. But, the special effects in my opinion didn’t look cheap. Butler and Baccarin had some genuinely emotional scenes together and it’s very watchable if you enjoyed the first movie. Once the family hits the road, there are quite a few exciting and harrowing scenes. There is a spoiler of one of the characters that I won’t talk about, but it plays a part in this trek that they go through. If you enjoyed the first one, this is worth a watch.

Nothing was done horribly, but felt like nothing new or interesting was attempted. Predictable in every way. 5/10

It's never actually good, but if you're a disaster movie fan it is mostly watchable until the terrible ending.
