E.T. is the most typical Spielberg movie. Its sentimentality, nostalgia, heavy-handed emotional manipulation, and gaps in logic in favor of spectacle, are the qualities that has made Spielberg beloved for fifty years. There is nothing more Spielberg than a cute kid with an alien riding a bicycle across the moon, and he knows it.
Schindler's List is his greatest movie, but it's difficult to watch. I won't watch it a third time.

Schindler's List - nothing else comes close.
I grew up in an era where WWII was discussed in class with the Holocaust mentioned and photos shown. Decades later I watched documentaries on the subject. This film shows what I'd learned and partially seen before in a way that made it far more personal. I've seen it once and have a BR copy waiting for a viewing, which will be my second and keeps being put off because it's a very difficult film to watch. It should be required viewing in HS history classes.
