He plays the same grumbling, bald, bad ass mofo in virtually every movie. Sometimes totally over the top, but he seems to always make it work. When a role calls for a one note bad ass character with little to no substance, usually higher up now, he’s there.

I’ve always marveled and like him, very much, don’t get me wrong, but he does, virtually, play exact same character in many many movies over the last 15 years or so and I would bet in the most of any actor in that span.

Has this really happened before? A, basically A-list actor in so many movies in short-ish span?
I guess I’m not seeing it. Yes, he plays the same character basically, but he does so pretty well. I believe that’s what I was saying.

To answer your question, there are lots of A-listers who basically play the same character over and over again, but Samuel L. Jackson has very high work rate and he's not only a leading man, but also very often a supporting actor or just makes a short appearance in a movie, so he's much more present like other actors who get type cast frequentely.
Tommy Lee Jones, Harvey Keitel, Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken, Bruce Willis, Nicolas Cage...

Your belief is correct, and my statement is also correct.

OldBoy invited me over for dinner, and I know the meal will be delicious because he will serve lemon chicken, and OldBoy makes great lemon chicken. He always makes the same thing: lemon chicken, and he has perfected the recipe. If there was a cooking competition show where all you had to make was lemon chicken, I'd bet on OldBoy.

It's all positive, but the clear implication is that you can't cook anything else, and so while your ability in this single task is praiseworthy, the implication is that your underlying cooking skills are lacking.

I want nothing more than this famous Oldboy lemon chicken.
