Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
It hasn’t broke on mainstream publications, but the news was announced on his Facebook page, which some are picking up now. |
Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
Everyone knows Alien, but I mostly knew him from Homicide: Life on the Street. One of the few cast members who made it through the whole series.

Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
Oh no, not Agent Alonzo Mosley!
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...2d64a99898.png And I think the cast of Alien is continuing to die in Director's Cut order. Don't for sure remember when Ripley euthanizes Dallas in that cut though, whether it was before or after Parker is killed. |
Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
^ Checking online, Ripley discovers Dallas' cocoon after setting the ship to self destruct.
That's bad news for 71 year old Victoria Cartwright. |
Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
Just this weekend I watched Warning Sign and after the film I looked up to see if Yaphet Kotto was still alive. I always liked him in whatever movie he was in, but especially Alien. I also did not know he was Jewish.

RIP Parker.

Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
Rest in peace Lt. Giardello.

I also remember him fondly in The Running Man. The dude had a screen presence, that’s for sure. |
Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
He's great in a bunch of movies and TV shows in a career that started back in the 1960s. I esp. remember him as the rough mentor to a somewhat naive and oversensitive Michael Moriarty working the Times square beat in REPORT TO THE COMMISSIONER (1975), one of the great NYC cop films of the era. And Anthony Quinn's reluctant partner on a case of three Harlem working stiffs robbing a mafia gambling stash in ACROSS 110TH STREET (1973).

Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
Lots of great roles. In addition to the ones mentioned (Alien, Midnight Run, Live and Let Die, Running Man and Across 110th), I’ll throw in Blue Collar Truck Turner and Bone as ones I’ve seen so many times.
He hasn’t acted since 2008. He didn’t look that great in King Cohen. |

^ I sure hope that Kotto's passing was more peaceful than Mr Big's.

Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
I was just coming on to say that no one has brought up Live and Let Die, which is a fave Bond film of many a Bond fan. That film had quite the cast, Yaphet Kotto, the 7-Up Commercial guy, Jane Seymour, the great redneck Sheriff, record breaking stunts at that time (the boat jump), just a fun film. RIP, Yaphet was such a wondaful character actor. At least he will live on through his roles in many beloved shows and films.

Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
This makes me sad. At least he will now have time to finish his coffee.

Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
RIP
Time to watch two of his best: Larry Cohen's Bone and Paul Schrader's Blue Collar. |
Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
He was good in Brubaker .

Re: Yaphet Kotto dead at 81
Didn't realize all of his roles. RIP,
