Re: Wonder Woman 1984 (Jenkins, 2020) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Not much else to say that hasn’t already been said. Just a let down.
Why call this movie WW 1984 and not lean in more to that era? Props to the marketing team I guess... they sold the movie in a way it certainly wasn’t.

I did think the action scenes were generally well directed. The script is just a fucking mess.

There are worse ways to spend 2.5 hours than looking at Gal... so that’s something. 4K HDR looked nice. The suits colors really popped in the daylight DC scene.

This was a whole lot of meh. Looked and sounded great but that is about it. A WW movie with hardly any WW. Lame. It was way too long. Glad I didn't have to pay to see this in a theater.

I can’t wait until Schrader puts Gal in one of his movies.

Re: Wonder Woman 1984 (Jenkins, 2020) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Yeah I just watched this with my girlfriend and what a weird movie. I was never one that was in love with the first film, but it was far, far better than this one.

The acting is overall good from most of the cast. What little action is in the film is also alright.

The plot is where this movie falls apart. So many gaps in logic, and just downright stupid things that happen. Just goofy and when you really think about it for a little bit you can come up with any number of issues.

Also regarding the villains. Things just are tied up so fast and neatly. Max Powers just renounces his wish and that’s that. Cheetah barely has any screen time. I didn’t time the fight, but was it even five minutes?

The score wasn’t bad, but it didn’t really stand out. Also not even one use of the Wonder Woman theme from Batman V Superman or the first solo movie was a bit odd. I kept expecting to hear it.

Overall not a great sequel. Below average and one of the weaker of the DCEU. Not saying a lot, but they had been getting better in my opinion. A significant step down. I really think that Jenkins needs to get a better writing partner for the next film or just leave the writing to someone else entirely and just stick to directing duties.

The reason why Maxwell needed to touch everybody was because people only got one wish. However, he just gave Cat lady a s second wish. If he can give anyone any amount of wishes then he doesn't need to reach out to everybody. He could have just got one person and gave them infinite wishes with each wish healing him in payment.

I thought she got a second wish because Lord was now the "Dream Stone", so technically the cycle started over. So while she lost her "Apex Predator" form, I still think she retains her powers from her first wish with the original dream stone.

I thought he said something about "feeling generous" when he gave her the second wish though.

It's not said in the movie, but Minerva's first wish was granted by the original stone. One could argue that she got a second wish since Lord was now the stone. One the other hand, it could have been just lazy writing, since there were many stupid decisions,

It played when she's running on the highway. But a guitar wasn't used this time.

So then, Diana didn’t have to renounce her wish since she initially wished on the stone rather than on Max?

She had to, since all granted wishes stayed intact, even after Lord becaime the stone. Honestly I'm not sure if it's that fruitful to search for logic in WW 1984. I'm just saying it could be explained that way, but I'm not convinced myself. I mean all the russian nukes vanished in flight, although they weren't part of a wish.

I didn’t notice it then. I’ll have to watch that part again. Definitely didn’t seem to stand out. Maybe the lack of the guitar.

It played in the fight with the soldiers at the end too. It was a different arrangement, like you mentioned.
I know I heard it twice because I kept wondering if it would be played.

Re: Wonder Woman 1984 (Jenkins, 2020) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Was this supposed to be something we see as an "elseworlds" kind of movie along the lines of Joker? I just don't see how all of the events of this one (which people apparently remember) could be forgotten by characters like Bruce Wayne and a young Clark Kent. There is a chance they might take the BvS approach of making something overlooked in the previous installment a plot point (like the collateral damage caused by Superman v Zod), but that's basically saying "Oops! Well, if we make it a plot point now, it's forgiven!"

Re: Wonder Woman 1984 (Jenkins, 2020) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Well, it was 1984, and pretty isolated story with not too much collateral damage that would affect future when the other DC movies take place, so why would it even matter in the current timeline of BvS or even Justice League? Young Clark or young Bruce probably wouldn’t even be aware or care I suppose. I mean Diana is like 100+ years old.

Who saw Diana or captured her on film for Bruce or Clark to recognize, know of her, or associate her with this event 30 years later?

WW84 had worldwide events happening. BVS had the isolated events and then JL had worldwide events again.

Not that it really matters but it was an electric cello, not a guitar.

You tend to remember or be aware of major worldwide events.

Why wouldn't it? Unless they erased everyone's minds. Hell, even the MCU has bits here and there where they've mentioned events from way in the past, present, future, etc.

But to the public’s knowledge, the event isn’t associated with Diana.
