I don't care if it bombed or if it sucked since I will watch anything with Jake.

I don't know if the marriage counselling scene was set-up badly or if I was in the theatre with a bunch of dimwits, because at the end of that part when the FBI agent kissed his husband goodbye, a few people in the audience gasped out loud as though it was the ending of The Sixth Sense.

Saw this on Wednesday.
Although it's a remake of the 2005 Danish film Ambulancen, it owes quite a bit of its containing structure to Speed (1994).
Fairly entertaining, anchored by a hyper-masculine performance by Jake Gyllenhaal and expected Michael Bay-isms.

Easily 20 minutes too long, but it's nice to see Bay get back to his roots. Sure the script was kind of dumb in places, but I actually enjoyed when things got silly. 2 hours of practical effects mayhem is such a rare treat these days that I'll take what I can get. And the end credits were only like 3 minutes long! I was trying to figure out if this was purely a product of little to no cgi or if Bay was making some sort of statement about the absurdity if modern movie credits.

The end credits went by super quick. Sixty names flashed onscreen for less than a second. Just before seeing Ambulance, I watched The French Dispatch and the end credits were the same fast way. I'm pessimistic this is going to become standard, to run the end credits faster than broadcast TV does to save time.

I had a free afternoon yesterday and at first I was thinking about sucking it up and finally seeing Morbius, but nahh
I used A-List and watched this a 2nd time. But, this time around I was more or less paying attention to the directing, the practical effects and the action sequences. I think Bay and his team did a remarkable job with mid-level budget they had. I would have guessed this was a $100M movie, not $40M.
Apparently this was filmed in about 38 days back in January 2021, which was a shitty time in LA when COVID cases were out of control and the vaccine roll out had barely started. A 38 day shoot is like a TV or made for cable movie.

I'm a little bummed that this movie won't make any money as it proves you don't need $100M of CGI to make a decent action thriller.

I already posted my thoughts on Ambulance. It sucks that no one watched it. Because I thought it was one of Bay's better recent action movies like 13 hours and it wasn't filled with CGI.

I love Michael Bay. Like it or not, you sit there and well up watching an action film. Very few directors get that out of me.
It may be labeled manipulative like a Hallmark commercial. But it’s going on 30 years since Bad Boys and I still see no fault with what does. He achieved the same thing with those two Meatloaf videos in the 90s too.
I didn’t feel much during Pain and Gain and Undercover 6. Ambulance is pretty strong.
Im not sure why more commercial films don’t attempt or achieve those feelings. Bay is still one of the only guys who can do it.

I didn't think it was as stupid as the critics said. Over-the-top, sure, but that's not a bad thing.
It was however, like alle Bay flicks, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too damn long.
I'll call it decent with some very cool drone shots.

I generally like Michael Bay movies, even when they go into stupid, inane territory. However, his latest, Ambulance is a 90-100 minute movie that is stretched to over two hours and got tedious pretty quickly, most notably the aerial/drone shots that did make me a tad nauseous. The writing also was pretty poor including the cringe "comedic" lines that didn't work, not to mention a few unnecessary scenes for the supporting characters. I guess on the plus side Jake Gyllenhaal can play psychotic pretty well and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has his moments. I also liked how Bay/composer Lorne Balfe recycled one of the themes from 13 Hours at the end.
Also, the action sequences while maybe technically impressive didn't really give any suspense or thrills. I have to wonder if anyone has calculated how many cars have been totaled in Michael Bay's movies.
As a whole, this is not one I'll revisit. *¾/*****
Edit: Just read that the 2005 Danish version only had a running time of 80-minutes.

I finished this last night, and it was pretty bad. The ways they dragged it out were so lazily ridiculous and preposterous that it couldn't even become the good kind of bad.
Like any Bay movie, there are some nice explosions, especially the ambulance explosion. I thought the drone shots were cool, but they kept cutting away from them so quickly. It was like two seconds of drone, and then cut to something else, when I thought it could've breathed for another second or two.
Can't recommend this movie, not even for mindless escapism.

Saw this on Peacock (included with Xfinity subscription). Probably the longest car chase in movie history. I enjoyed it, maybe a B- grade.
I noticed Michael Bay now enjoys using a drone camera. I liked The Rock reference (my favorite movie).
I did not like that there are a lot of scenes where the music drowns out the dialogue.

Picked up the UHD for cheap.
Yeah, it's not particularly good or believable and it's too long (that's what she said), but it has Bay's name on it and it did what I thought it would do.
All empty calories and ridiculous car chase excess, and it fell out of the cliche tree and hit every branch on the way down.
Nice ATMOS mix, so there's that.

I was going to post how preposterous this movie was... and it was. I get what Bay is and what he does... but man, this was shit. Literally 2 to 6 second clips melded together to make a seizure-inducing movie about the two dumbest criminals on the planet. They made Wahlberg and The Rock from Pain and Gain look like geniuses in comparison.

Caught this on a recent flight.
It's ok.. classic Bay camera work (except now with FPV drone swoops). Shades of Gone in 60 Seconds and Speed. Not sure why they give Will a pass at the end. And htf did that cop he shot survive all that blood loss and a hair clip tied to the artery to his spleen?
