I heard African Americans are extremely at high risk for colon cancer. Just sad. And to think he was sick for both Avengers movies and Black Panther.

There were articles from April commenting on his weight loss, but it was speculated it was for Da 5 Bloods.

Crazy. Definitely feels out of nowhere. Had no idea he was sick at all. I have to wonder if the MCU recasts T’Challa or if there will be a new Black Panther.

I'm sure they will recast but wouldn't be surprised if they move something else into BP2's spot in the schedule.

Terrible news.

Chadwick Boseman, truly noble. Wakanda Forever!

Honestly knew he was probably dying. He posted a video on instagram a while back and was super super skinny. Many people questioned if he had cancer or not. Crazy he kept it hidden for 4 years.

Unfortunately I was. There were low-key news stories of Boseman being sighted at a hospital in a wheel chair and looking severely emaciated. It's been a topic of discussion in other places.

WTF???

It's amazing that in this day and age they were able to keep his cancer a secret. For most of us, this just came out of nowhere and blindsided us. It's just so shocking.

I really liked (and will always like) Chadwick. I was very happy when he was cast as Black Panther, but his career was a lot more than just that.

This is a huge loss. He had such a great future ahead of him, and now that's been taken away - from both him AND us.

I'm just stunned.

I hope they don’t recast. He was BP. That’s it. End franchise. Anyone else would be disservice.

The last thing anyone cares about is recasting Black Panther right now. I think Coogler probably doesn't give a shit.

The 1st movie made a ton of money, but I don't think you can recast to be honest. Retire the character.

Re: Chadwick Boseman dead at 43

I can easily see Winston Duke can take over or someone like that. Marvel will honor him right and continue he character, and in good taste. But you try telling millions of kids who’s role model he is and say no more Black Panther.

Another time and place it’ll be discussed. But not now.

I would agree with that, except that the character is so important to so many people - a positive role model type in the movies - you can't just have him disappear.

They've got to carry on. African American kids need their top level superhero in the movies.

They just need to give it another year or two beyond what they were planning, and do a REALLY good job of recasting - and find a way to honor Chadwick in the movie. (Like they did Stan Lee...)

In a four year span he was James Brown, Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall and Black Panther.

Thats a lot of icons.

If they continue with the BP series, I would rather see them focus on Shuri, Okoye and Nakia.

Agreed.

My guess is that the franchise will continue, but the character of T'Challa will not be recast. They will figure out a way for another character to take up the Black Panther mantle. In the comics, others carried the mantle including Shuri.

I've always been hard on Black Panther as a film, it just never clicked with me. But his other roles like Get On Up, and 42 we're really fantastic and he was incredibly talented. Being able to do all that he did while he was sick and still remain so optimistic and he seemed like such a nice caring guy. After he was more well known I started noticing him in episodes of shows like Cold Case and CSI and even back in those he did good. He really was on the start of a great career.

Both of these young men are way too young to be gone. 2020 can get the heck out of dodge! RIP.

Chadwick Boseman played Jackie Robinson in “42,” and died at the age of 42 on Jackie Robinson Day.

I’m gutted, snot-nosed, and in tears. Fuck 2020.

If the MCU decides to do a legacy character down the road, my vote goes to Shuri.

Horrible news. But he definitely got to leave an impact.

Wonder if that's why it seemed like they were side stepping Black Panther sequel talk so heavily, even after End Game. Though I don't follow it as heavily as most on here seem too, something just seemed very odd about the way they were handling it.

Weird coincidence since normally MLB would wear 42 on April 15th, but because of the late shortened season they happen to be wearing 42 today.

Yeah, I would lean towards not recasting too. Black Panther is too big of a character to be retired entirely though. Have to imagine there will just be a new character taking up the mantle.
