Gone too soon. RIP.

Aw, man... My heart is breaking. I was a big fan of his.
He was just tweeting, yesterday. No indication of not being well. I hope his end was swift and painless.

That's a good long life. Amazingly I just showed All Of Me, which he directed, to my family this weekend (it streams on HBO Max) and they all loved it. That movie still holds up well.

The Dick Van Dyke Show is arguably the greatest sitcom of all time. It was a total game changer with an equal focus on Rob Petrie's home and work lives (and how they sometimes intersected). The writing was far more sophisticated than the sitcoms that had come before, and the talent on both sides of the camera was phenomenal.
And Carl Reiner worked on both sides of the camera on the show. His writing was fantastic, and his acting was genius.
I will always think of Carl Reiner as the creator and main writer for the Dick Van Dyke Show - and as the egotistical, but talented, Alan Brady on the show.
His work after the show was really good, too. He was amazingly talented.
98's pretty darned good, though. He had a great run.
Still, he will be missed.

I know 98 is way up there, but I thought he was older than that.

I always hate to see another legend from the golden age of TV pass on.
The Dick Van Dyke show along with The Andy Griffith Show are two of the best sitcoms to come from the 60's. Guess it didn't hurt that both shows had the same production team.

Sad news. I grew up watching The Dick Van Dyke Show. It was always hilarious. As a kid, I always thought his real name was Alan Brady and was always confused when I saw him referred to as Carl Reiner.
I’ll also add that although the 3rd Act is a little rough, The Jerk is a classic and has some of the most quotable lines ever.
And they may not be considered “classics” but I watched both Summer Rental and Summer School more than I care to admit when I was younger. In fact, I just re-watched Summer Rental last week for the first time in probably 25 years.

Dalton Ross went on a big rant today about how terrible the colorized versions are since they don't represent the original product. He said that if you can't appreciate them in the original B&W version, then you have no right in watching them.

Carl would have appreciated that dry humor.
