I've never understood how anything made specifically for streaming and only available to watch that way makes a lot of money.

I suspect this move means that all of the "franchise" movies -- Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Godzilla vs King Kong, Matrix 4, Dune -- will bomb, and what effect will that have on the prospects for further installments? The Monsterverse was already on shaky ground after KOTM.

How does a TV show make money? It's about "ratings," the number of views, and not raw gross revenue. HBO Max is also likely hoping these premieres will attract new subscribers, and retain them.

Certainly by releasing these new films on a staggered schedule, likely one a month or so, you'll get people who sign up for WW84, and then likely stay subscribed for the year. After all, $15 is about the price of one movie ticket in some areas, and if you get one new "theatrical" film each month, plus all the other content, why not?

I posted this on the other WB thread, but Nolan sounds like he and all filmmakers were blindsided by the WB decision to stream everything. I short, they didn’t know and they should wait until vaccines are out and life starts getting back to normal.

Variety is saying to expect some big movies tentatively scheduled to come out in the next few months to be delayed again. Mainly because COVID is not under control, many big cities are still closed and vaccinations are going at a slog's pace.
