Re: What kind of horror movie do you like the most?

I love giant monster movies, but I consider them sci-fi, not horror.

For horror, I like ghost stories, although most of the ghost films I love the most are not horror films, but romances like THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR, PORTRAIT OF JENNIE, and ROUGE. A CHINESE GHOST STORY has horror elements, as do some Japanese ghost films like KWAIDAN and KURONEKO.

However, if I had to pick one group of horror films I prefer over all others, it would be England's Hammer Films of the 1950s-70s, e.g. HORROR OF DRACULA, FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED, and THE DEVIL'S BRIDE.

I watch most types of horror, but I'm a sucker for a couple types:

1. Lovecraftian influenced cosmic horror - The Thing, Dagon, In the Mouth of Madness
2. Isolation settings - deep space like Alien series, Arctic wastelands like The Thing/The Thing/The Thing from Another World, The Shining

Probably supernatural or psychological horror.

I like the classic slashers, sci-fi horror, and giant monsters. I don't really like vampires, zombies, or found-footage horror movies.

I enjoy most of the other horror sub-genres and they’re really fun to watch but none of them affect me on a psychological level like haunted house/ghost stories.
Ditto this for me. I love horror movies in general, but nothing can get under my skin like a good ghost story.

I chose Other because psychological horror wasn't listed. My jam would be films that are heavy on atmosphere and/or mess with your head rather than relying on buckets of blood, stuff like
  • The Killing Room
  • Get Out
  • Repulsion
  • Black Swan
  • [REC]
  • Pontypool
  • The Sixth Sense
  • The Shining
  • Us
  • The Lighthouse

Don't mind zombie action movies, either. Train to Busan, La Horde, Snyder's Dawn of the Dead, and World War Z are definitely up my alley.

I'm not much into horror, but I do enjoy psychological horror. Jacob's Ladder, Misery, and Frailty (directed by Bill Paxton) are among my favorites. Frailty is a must watch if you are a horror fan. Kept me guessing to the very end. I like the zombie ones too, but more for post apocalyptic element than the gore.

Yes it is that simple for me as well. If it is well made I don't tend to stick to one genre over the other. Haunted House stuff I typically shy away from however.

I'm very much over the supernatural "horror" movies. For the most part, they're nothing but cheap jump scares and all follow the same basic formula.

I have never enjoyed "torture porn" movies like Hostel but love slasher films, both over the top (Jason X) and actually well put together movies (Halloween).
