Seberg is inspired by true events about the French New Wave darling and Breathless star, Jean Seberg (Kristen Stewart), who in the late 1960s was targeted by the FBI because of her support of the civil rights movement and romantic involvement with Hakim Jamal (Anthony Mackie), among others. In Benedict Andrews’ noir-ish thriller, Seberg’s life and career are destroyed by Hoover’s overreaching surveillance and harassment in an effort to suppress and discredit Seberg’s activism.

Re: Seberg (2019) - S: Kristen Stewart, Anthony Mackie -- Jean Seberg biopic
I just watched Breathless for the first time over the weekend and found Seberg charming. While I had seen her in things before it was never at a time where it made any impression. Breathless led me to look further into her career which led me to this film.
I think the subject matter was both interesting and disturbing, but it's only almost a good movie. Stewart is fine, but her performance doesn't elevate the film like a great lead could have. I think it would have helped to find this movie's version of Jean Seberg charming before we watched her life get pulled apart, but Stewart doesn't pull that off.
