I never wanted to see another trilogy after IX. The numbered saga should end at IX and not be something that just keeps going on and pointlessly.
After that, do something new like a Obi-Wan movie, a Boba Fett/Bounty Hunters movie, a KOTOR trilogy, a Hundred Years of Darkness trilogy, a trilogy that takes place decads or centuries after IX. The possibilities are endless. |

We’ll sure all of that sounds fantastic but apparently the true fans only want to see Luke Skywalker destroying ATATs with a wave of his hand.

I wouldn’t say that. I wouldn’t have had that scene play out the way it did at all personally. I’d have wanted a more simplistic fight that could have shown Luke as a badass Jedi Master but done believably.

Seems a little telling to me that he conveniently didn’t mention Johnson or his trilogy. Not saying that means it’s cancelled but that’s one of the supposed projects we were getting.

No, but given Johnson has already directed a film in the franchise and the GoT team has not, I agree with Mike86 it's telliing Iger would not emphasize Johnson's work given the opportunity.

Re: Future Star Wars projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.
Why would he omit his name? That to me says they may be reconsidering his trilogy. Whether that means it’s cancelled or there will be changes to it who’s to say, but I don’t think you’d leave out or just forget the name of a director who just did a film for you less than a year ago on accident while mentioning Abrams and people who haven’t done anything for you yet. Also Johnson’s trilogy was announced before the GoT creators trilogy.
My thought is maybe he intentionally left his name out so as not to be directly asked how he felt about how divisive The Last Jedi was. |

And I don't think Iger chose his example based on "what project was announced first" or any formal criteria. This wasn't a formal announcement of what projects were still in development. He mentioned the film that's actively in production, and then one of the pre-productions projects, possibly selected at random based on what entered his head first. |
Re: Future Star Wars projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.
But he didn’t mention just one name. He also mentioned Abrams who has Episode IX upcoming. Johnson had his film out less than a year ago and is supposedly directing a trilogy. Abrams is obvious to mention because that’s the next film but it’s weird to omit Johnson when supposedly he’s on board for three more films and yet mention other guys who haven’t done anything for you.

Iger explicitly said it was an inclusive list. You can't rule out a film because it wasn't mentioned in an incomplete list that explicitly states it includes other projects not mentioned. |
Re: Future Star Wars projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.
Like I said I’m not saying that’s an indication of the films being cancelled but I just think it’s a rather glaring omission for one reason or another. I also feel like he may have been purposely trying to avoid a question on the divisiveness of The Last Jedi as that interviewer likely would have asked.

He just admitted to being wrong about making too many Star Wars movies. You really think he was scared about being asked about ONE of them? Please. |
Re: Future Star Wars projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.
I’m not grasping at anything. I’m taking what he said at face value and speculating on that. I’m hardly the first to have noticed this online. You really think he just didn’t mention Johnson’s name because he only felt the need to give a couple examples?

You're grasping at straws trying to justify your own conclusions based on your dislike of TLJ. Stop it already. Seriously.

And I don't think your speculation is valid based on what he said.
If anything it seems like fans of The Last Jedi go on the defensive and act like those of us who didn’t care for it have no valid points. It’s odd to not bring up a person you just worked with and announced future projects with. That’s all I’m saying. Not sure how it’s hard to see that for some of you. |

It's only "weird" because either:
You can hate TLJ all you want. This thread isn't about that film. The thread isn’t about The Last Jedi but is about future Star Wars films of which that film’s director is supposed to be in charge of three. Again I’m taking what was said and speculating on that in the thread where that’s what a good chunk of the conversation is about. That makes me wrong or my opinion invalid? |
Re: Future Star Wars projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.
Someone like Iger is not going to let his words fall carelessly in my opinion.
Of course no one here has any more insight into his thoughts than anyone else. It's all SPECULATION. |

Re: Future Star Wars projects discussion thread - news, rumors, etc.
Given how much they wanted people to know Johnson was working on that trilogy at the time I do think it's fair to point out how Iger and others no longer mention it. Wouldn't be the first time Disney had made sure a project got a lot of attention and then ignored it hoping people would forget it was ever a thing.

Right - like the post telling us Iger picked the first one in his head. That's apparently the more "valid" speculation.
