New Star Wars Movie being developed by Kevin Feige
To the surprise of no one, Kevin Feige is a huge Star Wars fan. It might surprise many, however, that the Marvel Studios chief is going to be developing a Star Wars movie as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy makes new plans for a wave of projects set in the universe, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Feige had discussed a foray into the Star Wars universe in a late summer meeting with Kennedy and studio co-chairmen Alan Horn and Alan Bergman, sources say. In response to a query from THR, Walt Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer Horn said, "We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together."

Should edit the title to say, he's developing a Star Wars movie.

I don't know about Feige's filmmaking skills...
However, teaming him with the woman who gave us the SW abominations known as the TFA and TLJ doesn't fill me with much confidence.

Feige is a top Producer at Disney. He will eventually hire a writer and director to work on this. He's not going to write this movie or direct it. He's just branching out outside of Marvel.

This is good news for Star Wars. Feige definitely can help guide a big franchise like this along as he's proven with Marvel. I'd love if this was a way to quietly push Kennedy off to the side as far as creative decisions go. She can still stay on with Lucasfilm but more from the business side of it.

I can't wait till this threads evolves into 10 pages about TLJ.

Feige is a logical choice.
I want a Yuuzhan Vong movie series.
New Republic and Empire work together to fight powerful new race of alien invaders.
200 years after Rise of SKywalker, New Jedi Order in full swing.

I'm not big into the MCU films, so I can't make a judgement on this guy, but if he understands how to create an overarching story then that's a good thing.

so we have the GoT guys doing a prequel movie (or is it trilogy?), Rian Johnson doing his own trilogy (although it will never see the light of day) during the time of Rey/Finn but in a different area of the galaxy farther, farther away, and now this, where we don't know where it fits into the timeline, right?

To me Feige feels like they’re trying to correct course and maybe get him more involved with the creative process for Star Wars going forward. I don’t think it’ll just be he does a film and that’s that. He clearly knows how to put a successful film universe together, and even if he’s only a consultant I think he’ll be good to have on board in whatever capacity.

Do you mean the original run that started in the 70’s? No, they were all about the main group of heroes but there were a lot of secondary characters also in there that could have their own stories going on elsewhere.

Re: New Star Wars Movie being developed by Kevin Feige
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige’s highly anticipated “Star Wars” project just took a big step forward, with “Loki” executive producer and writer Michael Waldron signing on to write the screenplay, Variety has confirmed.
Waldron’s work on the “Star Wars” movie is part of a larger deal he’s signed with Disney, suggesting a long-term relationship with the company and its live-action divisions. Along with his duties on the Disney Plus series “Loki,” Waldron recently wrote the upcoming Marvel Studios feature “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”
Waldron first cut his teeth in the business working on various projects for Dan Harmon, including “Rick and Morty” and “Community.” He recently executive produced and co-wrote the Starz drama “Heels,” about a family of pro wrestlers starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig.
Disney first confirmed that Feige was developing a “Star Wars” feature in Sept. 2019, but otherwise Lucasfilm and Feige have remained tight lipped about the project. Meanwhile, Lucasfilm has aggressively expanded its Star Wars slate for Disney Plus: During Disney’s Investors Day presentation in Dec. 2020, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced 10 more series for the streamer in the wake of the success of “The Mandalorian.”
By contrast, the company has been far more conservative about its “Star Wars” feature slate. At the same Investors Day presentation, Kennedy formally announced just two new “Star Wars” movies. The first, “Rogue Squadron,” will be directed by Patty Jenkins and is slated to open December 2023; the second untitled film will be directed by Taika Waititi from a script by Waititi and Krysty Wilson-Cairns (“1917”). But Kennedy did not mention Feige’s project, nor a Star Wars feature in development from “Sleight” writer-director J.D. Dillard and “Luke Cage” writer Matt Owens.

The twist? The Emperor turns out to be a Skywalker.
I’m ok with one-off movies but I’d also be good with another trilogy assuming they treated the story as a three film story arc from the get-go.
Speaking of which, is Rian Johnson’s trilogy still in the works or did Disney end up pulling the plug on it? I haven’t heard any new news for a while.

Johnson and The Last Jedi were so contentious that I think it has been unofficially killed, but Lucasfilm will not admit it publicly.
To be brutally honest, I don't even know if the Feige and Waititi will materialize, either. The only one that looks firm at the moment is Rogue Squadron.
The Star Wars theatrical schedule is currently nebulous; I think it's RS in 2023, and they have slots in 2025 and 2027, too. (Probably the Feige and Waititi films).
A Johnson trilogy won't go in front of the camera in this decade, so it's unlikely it happens unless Disney starts ramping up Star Wars theatrical productions. And it seems like they're concentrating on pumping SW stuff out on Disney+ for the foreseeable future.

The Emperor is the absolute last character they should have brought back.
The evil wizard was definitively killed in ROTJ, and when they resurrected him TROS with magic, it means that any death will no longer stick and he can just come back again and again. He becomes like Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers.

The difference with Palpatine is that once they've established he can survive death by turning into a cloud of blue Dark Side energy or whatever, then he can survive anything. Being a magical character, if he can cheat death once with magic, he can do it again and again.
Maul coming back is kind of sketchy, but getting cut in half is something he probably could have survived, and lived his life like someone with Caudal Regression...
