So when did Gabriel download all that info to be backwards Neo? I get the whole conjoined twin part and why Maddie can see just what he wants her to see and regaining control, but not sure about becoming Shocker and also how would Maddie recover from the physical changes each and every time?

The police station fight was pretty cool tho.

I had low to no expectations and enjoyed this. I liked the pulpy twist of it being a parasitic twin, his capabilities in the tunnels and at the police station were a bit over the top but this is one of those movies where you can enjoy it on a certain level if you completely suspend disbelief and go with the flow.

I posed that question to a friend that had also watched it:

"If Gabriel awoke after her impact with the wall near the beginning ... how did he turn into a combination of Jackie Chan and John Wick in a matter of hours?"

Well there was something super human going on too. Normal humans cants get pissed and blow out the power.

I view the story kind of like Lights Out. It’s a mix of horror and science fiction.

Re: Malignant (2021, D: James Wan)

The movie definitely has some rough patches. For the first 30 minutes or so, it felt like 3 different mediocre horror flicks that had been hastily edited together. However, as soon as Wanda Sykes appeared as one of the pair of cops, I realized this film wasn't to be taken too seriously. So I was able to enjoy this as a tongue-in-cheek, total goof of a horror movie in which Wan paid homage to various influences such as Basket Case, The Dark Half and Italian jello movies. Other than Sykes, I didn't recognize the other cast members, but thought that the lead actress did a good job while the other cast members were as suitably wooden or over-the-top as the material demanded. The 3rd act was amusingly bonkers, although the ending was probably the lamest part of the movie.

Spoiler:

So, uh, is Madison going to be prosecuted for multiple murders or is Gabriel held solely responsible? And since Gabriel lives inside of Madison, does that mean Madison goes to prison for life or is she executed to kill Gabriel?

Yeah, I don't get how she could be mixed up with another actress. Maybe if she played a mute because she has a very distinctive voice.

It’s probably the hair but yeah, the second she opened her mouth and talked, he should have known that wasn’t Wanda Sykes.

This was fucking awesome. The twist is stupid as hell but so much fun. Grest kills and gore.

Re: Malignant (2021, D: James Wan)

I wish the first hour wasn't so boring because this is B movie glory when it gets going. This would have been the perfect movie to stumble upon at 2 am back in the day. Utterly ridiculous and silly as hell.

Spoiler:
it did kind of play like a superhero origin story

Saw this over the weekend...WTF did I just watch? Slow as fuck til the "reveal", then that happened and it was like having a some kind of Crack Cocaine hallucination. The villain's weird, because reasons, Super hero badass fighting style made this switch from Horror to action flick.

Re: Malignant (2021, D: James Wan)

Watched this last night and had an absolute blast...absurdity and all. I watched the preview a week or so ago and didn't think much of it but then started reading reviews that trickled in including the horror throwback elements of it so I knew I needed to watch it.

Edit to add: The more I let this movie sink in the more I realize I need to give it another viewing. Argento, Bava, DePalma, Hennenlotter - homages galore.

I liked this too and thought it was quite entertaining.

It was a tragedy Wallis dyed her hair black instead of keeping the beautiful blonde hair but maybe she had to ditch it for this role

Re: Malignant (2021, D: James Wan)

This movie was pretty terrible but I still kind of loved it. I saw it in the theater and then had to watch it at home a second time.
The terrible acting and dialog/script reminded me of "Old" but this movie was fun and interesting instead of being just terrible. The 'matrix' battle at the police station could have been cut in my opinion. It changed the tone a little too much.

Intentional.

You need to appreciate what this movie pays homage to, in order to get it, I suppose

Re: Malignant (2021, D: James Wan)

this fucking movie

I love the last 20 min, just not sure it's at all worth watching the first 90 min to get there.
Should have been significantly shorter, but otherwise... damn... I can't help but love that finale.

I love Wan but this was a shitty movie with a good payoff. I can't be the only one who noticed that it had so much wasted potential.

My favorite part is still the cliff side Asylum, with the folders in the basement where moisture does not go.

Screenrant says there are talks about a sequel to this, hopefully there is some moisture this time.
