This feels like the first Tarantino movie without hype. Should be great. But I haven’t felt much build up.

I think there was a TON of hype at Cannes. It's just that all the movie press saw it three months ago.

He’s doing late night shows. Seems on par with most his stuff. There always highly regarded but don’t always draw the biggest crowds or make colossal money. Mostly due to length and not completely accessible to general movie going public.

When is Tarantino's next interview about retiring? He likes to bring it up so often that it comes across as him wanting people to acknowledge his genius and beg him to keep gracing us with his master work.

When Hateful 8 came out, he told a reporter in a publicity tour interview that his desire was to one day have the Best Original Screenplay Oscar renamed the Quinton. That didn't go over very well.

With 16 nominations and 3 wins, it's more likely to be renamed the Woody, so Quinton will have to re-think his retirement if he wants to be a contender.

Did the Toy Story franchise get that many nominations?

In this day and age, I’d put my money on it being renamed the “Uwe Boll” before being callled the Woody.

Like a week ago when he said if he gets to do Star Trek that'll be his last.

If their bank accounts get thin or their egos need a massage, "entertainers" will be back in the business if there's people willing to pay .

Take it from me--I've seen all the Alien films to prove it.

(And a bucket full of the Who's Final Farewell Tours.)

I saw an advanced screening last night. First one I've liked since Inglorious Bastards, but I think it's better than that one.

Just checked in and my server handed me a 35mm film strip of screen grabs. Nifty.

I have a hard time getting my head around someone who is a film buff not liking Django. That said, I'm glad you liked this. I have to wait until Saturday night. It's going to be a rough 48 hrs until then...

Re: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Tarantino, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

This movie is steeped in 1969. Almost every frame has something, especially if you lived in the L.A. area. Tons of stuff on benches and billboards. Even when the camera scans household trash. And the music. And the tv.

Yeah, the Sharon Tate character really doesn't have much to do but Margot looks great. Even pregnant. But Kurt Russell was better in his three minutes.

And the end...
Spoiler:
I didn't see that coming, but it was awesome

Re: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Tarantino, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Tuesday for me. it'll be worth the wait. loved every single QT movie with the exceptions of Jackie Brown (it's grown on me more and i like it more than first time, but not my most fav) and maybe Death Proof (though half of it was masterwork). Django, IB, Kill Bill's, Hateful Eight...all masterful. and then there are his earlier works. ooh, boy don't get me started. his screenplay for True Romance (one of my favs of all time), Pulp and Dogs, of course. he has never done wrong by me.

Re: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Tarantino, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I liked it but you need to have an appreciation for the landscape of Hollywood in the late 60's, knowledge of the Manson murders and/or have lived through that era in California to truly get all the aspects that Tarantino put into the film and to appreciate the buildup to the final scene even more. I felt the cinematography was excellent, the acting was incredible and Brad Pitt stole the show. Margot Robbie is just beautiful. She's one that has that IT factor because not only how pretty she is, but also because she's great at body language. Tons of cameos and easter eggs, including in the credits, so stay till the end.

Re: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Tarantino, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

There certainly is no subtlety when it comes to nostalgia in this movie it is sugar coated with it
but in the end the only nostalgia I had was for a good QT movie

The Pacino scene immediately set the stage, falling flat like much of the rest that follows

Where QT used music to great effect as a best supporting actor in his past works he decided to let it take a lead actor role and its impact got old really fast

The last quarter of the movie tried to ramp up for the slog of what came before but meaningless timestamps and narration added little to nothing of interest

I will say Pitt was great and elevated what he had to work with

Words can't express my disappointment and frustration with this movie so I'll just leave it at that for now

The only thing I didn't get was the whole Bruce Lee coming off as an asshole in the film. Was he like that or does Quentin simply don't like him? Never heard stories of Bruce Lee being like that on set.
