In Fabric (2019 D: Peter Strickland) S: Marianne Jean-Baptiste
Looks interesting. I like many of the stars involved. An A24 Horror/Comedy so may be good.
"In Fabric is a haunting ghost story set against the backdrop of a busy winter sales period in a department store and follows the life of a cursed dress as it passes from person to person, with devastating consequences.."

This is opening in limited theatres this weekend and will be On Demand 12/10.
Reviews are very positive. Currently 95% on RT: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/in_fabric
It is an A24 horror film, so I for sure will check it out.

Saw this at TIFF 2018 and loved it, and then it seemingly fell off the radar (I didn't even notice this thread when it was started last summer or I would've commented sooner). Looks like it's playing the TIFF Lightbox here as part of that limited run. I am biased, though -- I'm a longtime fan Peter Strickland's work, and I try not to miss out when he's at the festival here. He's very much an auteur despite wearing his gauzy 70's euro-cult influences on his sleeve. You just get lost in his films, provided you find his groove, so to speak. If not, well, read the dissenting IMDb user (ugh) reviews before going in; if you generally tend to side with "don't believe the fake positive reviews!!!!" naysayers on oddball films like this, then it's probably not in your wheelhouse, anyway. It certainly fits in with some of A24's more idiosyncratic horror releases; it's probably even more bizarre than most of them once it goes down its own little rabbit hole about an hour in. The trailer barely hints at the full-on "they're really going there" weirdness on display and Strickland's intentionally skewed sense of humor -- particularly from Fatma Mohamed (who's in most of his films) as that transparently sinister saleslady -- but if you've seen any of his earlier films like BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO (still my favorite) and DUKE OF BURGUNDY, then you should know what to expect. Hopefully they'll see fit to release it on Blu-ray here with all the supplements from the UK edition.

Looks like Amazon has an unrated version to rent. I have some credits so I'll check it out from there.

Interesting. I'm kind of curious to see what the 'rated' version looks like now, since some of the "out there' scenes -- as I recall them -- that most likely allowed this to have an 'unrated' version are fairly essential to the plot and the generally unsettling tone of the film. Hopefully any disc version will contain the unrated cut.

This was some whacky shit. I really liked it from the first frame... but it kinda lost me towards the end.
Great score though. Loved the vibe.

Have you seen Strickland's BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO? Your impressions would suit that film as easily as this one, so it might be worth checking out. Both of them almost seem to exist in the same warped universe.

I'll see if I can track it down. I added The Duke of Burgundy to my Hulu list.
