Saoirse Ronan

Any fans? If she is in a movie the majority of the time it is going to be pretty good.

Could she be the Streep of this generation?

Maybe if she does more commercial movies along with the Indies and smaller films her career could reach a new level.

She was fantastic in Lady Bird, one of the best performances in ages.

Re: Saoirse Ronan

She's great. I think everyone thinks that. Plus she's only 25 and has already been nominated for an Oscar for three different performances.

Hannah was interesting since it was an action film and she carried it totally. I'd love her to do some more action and some other more commercial films.

But Meryl Streep? Let's pump the brakes a bit.

I feel like this thread is 10 years late.

She’s one of my favorites. Seen basically ever film and on Broadway.

Re: Saoirse Ronan

Good actress, but I prefer her lesser known films like Lost River & Byzantium. I prefer those over Lady Bird & Brooklyn which except for her performances are IMO very overrated.

Re: Saoirse Ronan

Yep, she blew it away in Hanna. Lady Bird was okay, she's what made the movie for me. But I love her, I think she's a damn fine actress.

Well, her and Laurie Metcalf. And "Brooklyn" was a beautiful film.

Re: Saoirse Ronan

Yes, I like her work quite a bit, particularly Brooklyn.

I haven't seen The Lovely Bones. I'll have to check it out.

Re: Saoirse Ronan

Never liked Streep in ANY movie.

As for Saoirse, I've only seen her in City of Ember & The Host and heard her voice in a couple animated flicks. Her performance in CoE was alright, but nothing really stand-out imo, while The Host was so terrible it killed any sequel from happening.

One of my favorite upcoming young(ish) actors is Dylan O'Brien.

Re: Saoirse Ronan

Lovely Bones is worth checking out.

You make that judgment after seeing mediocre films like the Host and City of Ember?

Re: Saoirse Ronan

I think "Brooklyn" and "Lady Bird" are her two very best performances. But I also enjoyed her in "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "How I Live Now", "Hanna" (of course), "Byzantium" and "Mary Queen of Scots".

And really Koby? Not one Meryl Streep film !??

Before this becomes Streep Talk, I did like her in Defending Your Life.

Agree. I don't want to turn this into a Meryl Streep thread. But I didn't bring her up. "Defending You Life" is one of my favorite Streep performances. My top 10 would have to include: "Out of Africa", "The French Lieutenant's Woman", "Sophie's Choice", "The Devil Wears Prada", "Death Becomes Her", "Julie & Julia" (she should have won that Oscar over Sandra Bullock), "One True Thing", "Postcards from the Edge" and "Manhattan".
