Need help with a (ski) movie
I remember seeing this movie on tv in the 1980’s. It was on the local channel in a small ski town.
Probably made in the ‘70s or ‘80s. I don’t think it was a feature, rather a short, or it may have been cut down to shorter length. I’d say it was only 15 minutes.
It’s not a ski documentary. It was a semi-scripted comical stunt film with skiers performing in some kind of Rollerball meets Hunger Games scenario. They sword fight with ski poles, ski jump, freestyle, etc, and it’s all a competition. There was a memorable moment burnt in my mind of a guy escaping “the games” and he skies through a tunnel of snow and in the tunnel are dozens of arms reaching out to stop him and all of them are wearing ski gloves. Very funny, memorable moment.

Sounds somewhat similar to Gymkata, but that wasn't a short film, and it had no skiing scenes that I recall.

A great ski filmmaker died a year ago in January 2018. He made skiing films--shorts and documentaries--for over 50 years. I remember posting his obit on Facebook and asking if anyone had seen any of his films, since his career sounded so interesting. His name was Warren Miller. I don't know if he made the film you describe, Mabuse, but here's the link to his Wikipedia page:

Oh I know Warren Miller. I’ve been to screenings of dozens of his films, and seen most of them. He is a legend.
But no, he didn’t make this silly film.
Warren Miller is/was magical. He had such a great voice. His narration alone just soothed you and made you excited to get out there and have an adventure.
It’s hard to find his stuff these days. A few things are on YouTube. There’s some new subscription channel called Ecoboom or something that’s offering his films.

There are sort of different eras for Warren Miller. This is one of the last that he wrote and narrated himself.

I’ll bump this to promote a documentary film that was made about the life of ski movie pioneer Warren Miller.
It’s on Amazon.

The other day I was trying to come up with the name of the director of the iconic ski films and google didn’t help me find Warren Miller at all, but this bump did.
