And it was a complete waste since we didn’t see any pay off of her surviving at the end.

There were some cool kills and the zombie tiger was pretty badass. Tig Notaro was good although her shots seemed like they had a weird blur around her which made me think it was the technology of editing her in.

That begin said, I can see this being a decent franchise, if done right.

My feelings as well. Started off great, but it stalled a lot in the middle and end. I couldn’t keep track of who people were and who got killed.

what happened to to the girl they were trying to save? She was in the helicopter and then…not there.

After the big opening credits sequence, we really didn’t see a ton of zombie battles, save for the John Wick scene with the woman (Chambers?) fighting off the hibernating zombies. Did we even see that guy use his giant circular saw on zombies past the character introduction scene?

I think

Spoiler:

we were supposed to assume she was killed at the end along with Tig.

considering the ENTIRE plot hinges on her character (not that it was ever developed or Dave’s daughter really had any compelling reason to risk her life for her), how they deal with what happens to her in the end is one of the biggest gaffes in film storytelling I’ve ever seen.

Genuinely terrible in almost every way. A few cool kills do not save this flick at all. What a waste of talent.

I always have a hard time identifying with Snyder's macho characters. Everyone in his movies reminds me of cool people at my gym. Ha.

Vegas was a good backdrop. A few action sequences were very much Snyder's style and got me feeling good, which is really the main draw for me. Manipulative or not, Snyder and Bay are two filmmakers who can hit the right notes and give me some chills.

It seems that Snyder laid some groundwork for stuff most people wouldn't consider. I had no idea. I thought the plot was pretty straightforward.

I thought the "time loop" thing was just the character having some fun. People are also comparing Eiffel Tower Elvis in the opening credits to Tig's character. And little blue fetus.

^ I thought that was pretty obvious considering they were cutting back and forth to the characters and the skeletons as he was talking about the time loop. The “Tig” skeleton was also wearing the same shirt as Tig.

Honestly, while I wasn’t super thrilled with this movie, I am somewhat excited to see where they go with this series. But if they go the time loop route, I’m probably out.

Not understanding the tweet above. It's clearly not the same necklace. One key has 3 holes the other key has 4. So definitely not the same key and therefore not the same character. Right?

Overall I did like this. It was a chore until they got inside the quarantine zone then it really got going. Batista delivered. As did Tig Notaro. Insane how well she was stitched into Delia's scenes. Loved the zombie tiger kill too.

Lots of little logic gaps keep bugging me tho. So did the higher intelligence zombies have sex with each other? Or was the queen already pregnant before she turned? And how come a zombie fetus can't live / be a zombie if the host body died (even tho her head continued to live)?? Aren't zombies created from dead bodies?? Shouldn't the fetus become a zombie once it died?? Am I too stuck on zombie babies?? lol

Could have been something pretty great had it been edited down better. But that's every Snyder movie ever right?

^ Don’t feel bad, Snyder himself is too stuck on zombie babies too. This is his second zombie movie and second time using the zombie baby idea.

No action movie should be more than 2 hours. Even John Wick gets too long and those are the gold standards to me (cut the entire desert part of 3, for example).

Snyder’s best movies are shorter - DofD is 101 minutes and 300 is 116. The man needs an editor.

4 loops = 4th time's the charm? 3 holes was supposed to be the third time. AOTD is not a straight up horror film. It's got science fiction elements all over the place.

Saw this Friday night. Good visuals, but pretty average overall. About par for Zack Snyder.

Not usually a Snyder fun, but I had a load of fun watching this movie. The zombie tiger was excellent and I enjoyed all of the characters, as well as the unique take on zombies. Fun movie.

I have to say, the whole theory about the zombies being a creation of aliens has me fascinated. I'm curious if Snyder has this thing mapped out for sequels like he did with his original JL or maybe a "Zeus" origin story?

I liked the movie overall, but it took itself way to seriously at some point. Those "deep" father/daughter moments felt out of place and didn't really fit into the movie. I was surprised Matthias Schweighöfer didn't suck, he was actually quiet funny in combination with Omari Hardwick.

If only there was anything in this movie to support that beyond some blue flashes when some zombies died. There's a point where you are being too subtle with your movie and it looks like Snyder did that here. I watched the whole thing and never once thought it was anything but a typical zombie movie. Finding out there were all these hidden sci-fi elements just makes me roll my eyes.

Re: Army of the Dead (5/21/2021, D: Zack Snyder) - Netflix

this really sounds like a movie up my alley. love the cast, premise, look, feel, but that runtime is daunting. glad it's streaming, but still. i like to do in one shot and i find myself, sadly, having less and less time for movies and longer run times. i want to give it a whirl, perhaps just have to do in chunks.

As much as I enjoyed it, this brings up all the plot holes

^ That about sums it up.

All those plot holes weren’t even blink-and-you-miss-it or a case of over analyzing. They were all right there in front of you for the entire movie.

And that video doesn’t even touch on the subject of the weird zombie love affair and the zombie fetus that turned from blue to a seemingly living pink to... uh, nothing?

I love that guy! I was about to come here and post that exact same thing. Plot holes are his specialty.

He is good. I like to keep up on his new videos.

real question: why doesn’t Hollywood just hire a deconstructionist like him to give the script a tighter edit? Like everything he mentioned could have been tightened up.

Tho he didn’t mention how the zombie container just flipped open in the collision. Oops.

The last thing Hollywood should do is hire a know-it-all vapid YouTuber to 'fix' their films during the writing/production processes. Let's not give bug-eyed-thumbnail-image guy too much credit, folks...
(Sorry... I just don't get the appeal of that kind of surface-level 'analysis' that's on par with Cinema Sins...)

Plus, Hollywood already has a person for that. He/she’s called the Director. And if they don’t catch it, the Script Supervisor catches it. And if they don’t catch it, the Editor catches it....
