We don't get out to the theater much anymore as a family ( financial reasons ), but we will absolutely go see Ghostbusters.

I don't know what happened to me recently. I love the original (and the 90s cartoons). I enjoyed 2. I watched Answer the Call.
I think the trailers for this look pretty good. I know it's out soon, but I just don't care. I think it'll be good. But i think I'm gonna wait.

Oy, critics coming down harsh on this.

"It's hard not to see the film as one of the worst results of our infantilized culture."
"'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' is like staring into the abyss to find nostalgia devouring itself whole."
"In trying to please everyone, "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" should ultimately please no one except the most hardcore of fans whose idea of a fun time at the movies is pointing at things they've seen before."

This one made me laugh, though:

"The whole movie is basically the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at the TV meme for 125 straight minutes."

^ And that’s my biggest fear for this movie. A few *wink wink* call backs or subtle references are fine. When it’s 2 hours of “Hey everyone, remember this!!” It becomes tedious.

I'm starting to get concerned this will be a Ready Player One situation, where the callbacks are basically the story.

Maybe that's what i was concerned about. Seemingly no real soul in this.

To me it very much sounds like a love letter to the original film and it’s fans. It seems like the big knock is that it doesn’t stand alone the best.

do you really think Jackman would get on there and destroy the thing if he hated it? c'mon. it's Hollywood pandering to Hollywood... I'm ok with it, but lets call it what it is.

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

Jackman did work with Reitman just a couple years ago for The Front Runner and then Jackman appeared in that Princess Bride thing Reitman did after that. I assume they’re friends. Jackman is probably just trying to give his friend’s new movie a little more buzz.

you don't shit where you eat.

he's not going to sour relationships with actors, directors, and producers by crapping all over a movie.

Yeah I don’t think he would publicly crap all over it if he hated it, if he hated it, I assume he just wouldn’t post a video and would have kept his opinion to himself.

Coming out of the Eternals I saw some pretty good Ghostbusters uniforms gathering for the screenings tonight! I'll be seeing the early Friday show with my AMC bday combo! Lol I saw the Jackman thumbnails and just assumed it was fake, but good to hear.

This right here is the correct answer.

I thought it was cool because how often do celebs praise films they have nothing to do with?

He's also worked with Reitman before.

Re: Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021, D: Jason Reitman)

I saw a comment on twitter that said it was like The Force Awakens and if you liked TFA you'll like this but if you didn't like TFA then you won't like this.

I still love TFA and don't care that it repeats some of the storybeats of ANH. That's how life is sometimes, things happen again and again.

I don't think that really applies; Ghostbusters and Star Wars are very different franchises.
