The Star Wars Holiday Special
...in just five minutes. Staring Mark Hamil's Android Replicant, Chewbacca's Family, Bea Arthur and Jefferson Starship (no, really).
I had never seen this before, and it is absolutely craptastical.

Here I was hoping for news about a theatrical release of this in a newly digitally enhanced print. How disappointing to find that this direct to TV thing is brought up in a movie forum with no movie news!
Bah!

You guys are being too hard on this film. With a little CGI, it will be as good as EMPIRE.
Actually, the worst part about this movie is the song Leia sings at the end, and the dance number.

My wife got me this on DVD for Christmas last year. It was almost impossible to sit thru, but has a special place in the collection nonetheless!

the only reason for the wampa attack scenes was to explain mark's scars
otherwise, that stuff really has nothing else to do with the rest of the movie

I remember watching this when it aired originally. Even at that young age, I was struck dumb by how totally hilariously terrible it was and knew I was watching history. Thirty years later and its godawfulness has made it a cult item, that's when you know something is bad.

A couple of things interesting as of late with the holiday special.
1. At Comic Con Sansweet showed clips of TV programs that spoofed Star Wars over the years. A clip was shown of the special both live action and of the cartoon (huh?!)
2. There is an action figure now of the animated Fett from the Special as well as a statue.
And did anyone else notice Carrie Fisher was stumbing drunk in the Special?

But seriously, the one bright spot in this whole travesty was the Boba Fett cartoon. It wasn't painful to sit through, and it provided some back story on everyone's first encounter with the bounty hunter.
