Disney/Pixar's Onward (2020, D: Scanlon) V: Pratt, Holland, Louis-Dreyfus, Spencer

Pixar is moving onward with its next project.

The studio announced Wednesday that a new film called Onward will voice star Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer. Monsters University director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae are taking on Onward, which is set in a suburban fantasy world. It centers on two teen elf brothers who go on a quest to discover if there is still magic left in the world.

“At Pixar we try to create stories that come from some kind of personal truth,” said Scanlon. “This film was inspired by my own relationship with my brother.”

The film will be a reunion for Marvel Studios' Pratt and Holland, who appeared together in this summer's Avengers: Infinity War. Pratt also appeared in Universal's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and has Warner Bros.' The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part out in February. Holland recently wrapped filming Spider-Man: Far From Home, reprising his role as Spider-Man/Peter Parker for a fourth film. Louis-Dreyfus currently stars on HBO's Veep, which will return for a final season on HBO in the spring, while Spencer earned an Oscar nomination for last year's The Shape of Water, and voice stars in Robert Downey Jr.'s upcoming The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle.

Pixar is coming off of The Incredibles 2, which earned more than $1.2 billion globally and is the animation studio's highest-grossing film of all time. It has Toy Story 4 out next June.

Onward hits theaters March 6, 2020.

Interesting. A suburban elf world?

What I love about Pixar is the premise always has you going like...wut?

It'a a movie about a
....lost fish
....a cooking rat!
....a lonely robot!
....your emotions!
....an old man!

but they end up being incredible and the "hook" is just that and the story itself is about something that is much more relatable.

Glad to see more original ideas coming out of Pixar.

In Disney and Pixar’s “Onward,” two teenage elf brothers embark on an extraordinary quest in a van named Guinevere to discover if there is still a little magic left in the world. Featuring Tom Holland as the voice of Ian Lightfoot, and Chris Pratt as the voice of Ian’s older brother, Barley.

Onward opens in theaters on March 6, 2020.

Pixar has never had a Spring release before, have they? Wonder why they don't make this a Summer 2020 movie.

edit : It looks like the answer is because "Untitled Pixar" gets released June 19, 2020.

Animated on a Commedore 64, inside a Yuba City massage parlor. This movie has everything:
....a lost fish
....a cooking rat!
....a lonely robot!
....your emotions!
....an old man!

That looks so weird. I'm not sure about this one.

That being said I'm super excited because I said the same exact thing about some of the best Pixar movies.
A movie about a lost fish?
A movie about a cooking rat?!
A movie about an old man?

The concept is fine. The character design is questionable. Yes, I'm judging this on two images but if you just showed me the stills above, I would have sworn it was a Dreamworks movie. Hell, it looks like a blue Shrek is sitting in the driver seat in one.

That being said, at least it's something NEW from Pixar and not another sequel.

I dunno, this looked really awkward, yet really funny. I’ve questioned Pixar from time to time, yet they’ve never disappointed. I’m in no matter what.

That part about with the unicorns totally doesn’t surprise me.

Great teaser. Loved the plane entering the shot. Looks fun - I’m in!

Yeah if this wasn't coming from Pixar I'd be doubtful, but it is. I'm sure my kids will love it, I called them all in when it came on during the Finals.

Of course, this is the teaser trailer with the quick, easy jokes. Eventually, there'll have to be an actual plot to sell. I loved the teasers for "Secret Life of Pets", but then it actually had to have a plot, and when it was revealed I lost my interest.

While I haven't seen all of the sequels Pixar has pumped out, I can't say I've ever been disappointed in one of their movies. I don't make it out to the theater much these days, but once Disney+ comes around, I'll sign up and see this whenever it's available. I imagine I'll be pleased with it, as I am with all other Pixar movies.

They don't even say in the trailer what the errand is, which I thought was odd.

Love those as well. They're fun, and my kids love them. Not every one needs to make us ponder life and have adults cry.

Ok, this is a Pixar "let's sell some toys!" movie. At least it (probably) won't be a tear jerker.

Once again, Pixar is going to beat Dreamworks at their own game.

This spring, Ian & Barley’s quest beginneth.

Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. Pixar Animation Studios’ all-new original feature film is directed by Dan Scanlon and produced by Kori Rae—the team behind “Monsters University.” “Onward” releases in theaters on March 6, 2020.

Looks cute, although giving up the details about their Dad should have probably been kept a secret.

I have doubts about this one, but we'll see. I hope it's good, but I don't blindly trust Pixar anymore after the embarrassments that were Cars 2 and The Good Dinosaur. Brave was also mediocre and I had to look up Monsters University to confirm I saw that since it was so forgettable.
However, having said that, I will always give them a chance to win me over. I owe them that for Nemo, Up, Wall-E, Monsters Inc, Incredibles, and especially the Toy Story series. I didn't think TS4 would be good and it's now on my top 10 of this year.
When they miss, you feel bad for them. But when they hit, it may change you inside for the better.

I'm pretty much in the same place. I agree on Brave and Monsters U., and I didn't care for Finding Dory or Cars 3 (got through 10 minutes and just couldn't care). On the other hand, I avoided "inside Out", but when I finally caught it I thought it was great.

After watching the full trailer, a part of me would prefer Seth Rogen voicing this over Chris Pratt for some reason.
