No, I've always thought that Fallon was as annoying as shit and I've been mystified about how the fuck his show business career has been so successful.

Personally, I think the days of a big major network prime time Academy Awards show are numbered.

That’s like a union required triviality. He didn’t do it for the paycheck. He did for the exposure. It gets you seen worldwide. It’s not like if you offered 20 million you’d get a great show.

What I’ve been saying for a while now is the show needs a Great Leap Forward. Going from the modest dinner party at the Rosevelt Hotel to an elaborate live tv show was a big innovation. It needs that kind of massive innovation.

Fallon may be hilarious to some of the posters here, but I find him completely unfunny. He seems like a nice enough guy, but his sense of humor is not my own.

Maybe it is too late for him now since there are probably generations of people who just know him from Shrek and have no idea he was on SNL or a comedian.

Michael Che and Colin Jost would be good and were excellent on the 2018 Emmys though you would run into that problem of hiring people from a rival network.

It should be on a new network NBC, CBS, or FOX and not on ABC anymore.

How about Tommy Maitland for the job? He's already host of one ABC show.

How about Stormy Daniels?

Now, that'd be a hoot.

Do you watch the show for the host? Does it really matter who does it? The Oscars have been a joke since the early 90's.

Yeah, an entire night of throwing to Fred Armisen to live improv. Kill me now.

Many women I know love Fallon, because he is likeable, not edgy, and not a bad looking guy. Many older people I know like Fallon (my mom likes him the best) for the same reason is that he plays it safe.

Safe plays perfectly for shows playing to a mass audience in the long run. Sure, Colbert is beating him now, but that is because of the Trump phenomenon which won't last forever. Colbert was getting killed by Fallon before Trump was elected, and he found his niche of burying him every night and grabbing the MSNBC crowd.

Trust me, Fallon just annoys me, but I understand why he appeals to people. The same goes for Corden, as he is unwatchable, but appeals to many of my friends wives as he plays it safe and does that dopey karaoke. I enjoy a more edgy late night like Letterman (in his prime), Craig Ferguson, or even a Norm MacDonald. But for that reason, they don't appeal to the masses cause they don't play it safe.

JF's greatest appeal is that he has no appeal. He is the definition of lowest common denominator.

Maybe that would help. But I’m talking about something massive. Of course I don’t know exactly what that is, but like a complete overhaul.

That is the definition of Kimmel and not Fallon.

I am not a fan of his music but it seems people have a fondness for Justin Timberlake and he could host the show.

Now they might have no host

I would vote for Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.

Bugs Bunny does have some credibility as a role model for diversity as he did occasionally cross-dress.

I wouldn't take the Oscars hosting gig for all the money in the world. It's a lose-lose proposition.

Sasha Baron Cohen but he would be a nightmare since he is unpredictable and could do anything which freaks out the Academy.

Too bad, son, because I was about to offer it to you!

The Oscars and other awards show are now niche. In the old times such things were an 'event' that families gathered around the television for.

Now you can just find out who won what by picking up your phone. People are still interested, but not in the same way.

The Oscars should go to cable or streaming.

I don’t necessarily disagree but I worry that any massive change they make would be for the worse. I fear incorporating Twitter or some sort of social media into the mix.

Frankly, if the Oscars remove all the silly dance numbers, useless “comedy” bits (ie. taking celebs across the street to a movie theater), keep politics out of it, and maybe actually keeping the run time to under 3 hours, they might not see such large ratings drops.

Have no fear though, Black Panther will get a Best Picture nod this year. That’ll bring in the young, hip audience.

Just streamline the ceremony to less then 3 hours, and focus on the major awards. The problem with the Oscars since I can remember (going back to the early 90's when I started watching them) is had that boring middle of the show.

-The first half hour is good as you have the Host usually does 15 minutes, then they would start off with Best Supporting Actor and Actress Awards. Those awards always threw a curveball at the predictions (Marisa Tomei/My Cousin Vinny for example), so they were always interesting to see how they played out.

-The next 2 hours were utterly boring of the minor awards that nobody cares about, and endless dance sequences, bits, or something that would promote the Best Picture/Best Song categories.

-The last 30-45 minutes was the best part with Best Actors/Actress, Best Director, and Best Picture. They just need to streamline those 2 hours in the middle to maybe an hour and the show would actually be watchable. Right now it's a bloated 3+ hour that goes on too long, and ends too late for East Coast Viewers, when they could finish by 11:00 Eastern Time.
