I think absolutely so. He is probably most respected host on late night with stars. I think he is actually the perfect choice. Really coming into his own.

Probably (definitely) doesn't need its own thread. But the short answer is : ABC doesn't pay a shit-ton to broadcast the Oscars just to promote the host of NBC's late night program -- at least they don't as long as they have their own rival late night entertainment program on the air.

Of Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Conan O Brien, Seth Meyers, James Corden, Trevor Noah, Sam Bee and Jordan Klepper, Fallon is the worst of them all. Hands down. With Corden following closely behind. I'd say Jimmy Fallon and Jay Leno are neck and neck for worst late night talk show host in my lifetime.

Snickering Jimmy? Why don't they bring out Horatio Sanz and then they can laugh together at every joke he makes throughout the ceremony? Even though Jimmy Fallon utterly annoys me, he is actually a good choice for the Oscars because he offends no one in a world where everyone is offended these days. Corden would be another good choice because he is actually worse then Fallon and probably less controversial. The fact that he has a Late Night Show and a guy like Norm MacDonald doesn't says everything you need to know about the type of humor that executives want.


Not sure if ABC had the TV rights in the late 70's/early 80's, but Carson hosted 5 times when Nightline was going up against him. Now of course it was a different time and Carson was the King of Late Night, but I think most people have made their minds up regarding Fallon, Kimmel and Colbert, and one night at the Oscars probably won't change it.

I don't hate Fallon like everyone else here seems to, I think he's perfectly adequate. But Decker probably has the right answer at the beginning of the thread.

I can only stand Fallon in very small doses. So, no. I would not want to see him host the Oscars. Conan is a good choice. I love Gervais but they would never ask him.

Fallon seemed like he was trying to be somewhat original and fresh when he first started hosting the Tonight Show. That lasted about a month. His show is a chore to sit through now.

I guess you’re right though, he does have nicely coifed hair. Not sure that makes him Oscar host material though. :hscratch:
