Anita (2019) -- Biopic on late Hong Kong actress Anita Mui

Anita - dir Longman Leung
Currently in production, this long-awaited biopic of Anita Mui stars model Louise Wong, making her acting debut, as the hugely popular singer and actress who died in 2003 aged just 40. Produced by Edko Films and Irresistible Films, the drama also stars Terrance Lau and is due for release next year. Director Leung is co-director of hit action dramas Cold War and Cold War 2 with Sunny Luk.
Contact: Julian Chiu, Edko Films

This is Anita Mui. She played Jackie Chan's Mom in Drunken Master II

It was rumored that she and Jackie had an affair. Anita never married and had no kids when she died 15 years ago.

She was also the female lead in A Better Tomorrow III

I loved Anita Mui. I think I've seen like 8 or 9 of her movies.

A Better Tomorrow III was my favorite. She had awesome chemistry with Chow Yun Fat.

This is the woman playing Anita. Doesn't really look like her. Her name is Louise Wong.

Obviously if you know nothing about HK or Chinese movies, this thread won't mean anything to you. But, she was a really well known and pretty popular actress/singer in Hong Kong for 20+ years.

She was once considered the HK Madonna.

Tragic that she died so young. I believe she and Jackie starred in like 3 or 4 movies together.

A biopic about her life and career could be really compelling.

Louise Wong is cute. That arm is long as fuck, and the few images I could find of her made her look really tall, so I figure that she's a model of some kind.

I also forgot that Anita Mui died a long time ago.

I'm in. Loved her in all her roles, but the one that stands out for me is Executioners (the sequel to Heroic Trio). The whole movie is a lot darker than its predecessor, but Mui especially as she's imprisoned. Great stuff, and she died way too soon.

Loved her in the somber ghost story Rouge where she acted opposite Leslie Cheung, who also met a tragic ending in real life, and in Mr. Canton and Lady Rose opposite Jackie Chan.

I wonder who will play Leslie in the film, as he should have a place in the story. I heard she was devastated when he committed suicide.

Jackie was actually older than Anita when she portrayed his "mother" in Drunken Master II, but she was technically his stepmother in the movie, so the age difference didn't matter (and, anyway, Jackie was playing a character much younger than he was at the time).

I haven’t seen too many performances, but remember her from Rumble in the Bronx, and read about when she died. I’m interested in this.

I loved Anita Mui and was devastated when she died--15 years ago this December 30. I'm skeptical about this biopic, esp. since: a) the actress is a model making her acting debut; and b) she looks nothing like Anita. Anita was a strong character onscreen and off. You need someone with a little seasoning to play her, not some kid straight off the runway.
